Bury's three game winning streak came to a shuddering halt as Wrexham took the lead twice to claim a vital win at the Racecourse Ground

The Shakers named an unchanged side for the fourth game running after a convincing victory over Rotherham on Tuesday. Wrexham however had three changes from the side that lost out Wycombe last time out. Gareth Evans and Neil Taylor were called into the starting lineup to replace Hope and Whitley. Mike Williams was also dropped to the bench to give Sam Aiston a place in the starting eleven.

It was a fairly quiet opening ten minutes, with neither side really threatening to take the lead. The Wrexham defence however was looking slightly shaky, and it was mad evident when Nicky Adams crossed the ball into the penalty are on the 8 minute mark, which looked like an easy catch for keeper Gavin Ward. However, defender Gareth Evans miss read the play and cleared the ball out of his keeper's hands. It was 15 minutes before their was a real chance, and it was for the away side when Nicky Adams went for glory from the edge of the penalty area, but the shot was deflected wide for a corner. Brian Barry-Murphy fired the deep corner in from the left hand side looking for the heavily marked Ben Futcher in the six yard box. Wrexham keeper Gavin Ward wasn't willing to take any chances as he came off his line to punch the ball over the crossbar. Just a couple of minutes later Bury were on the counter attack after a shot burst of Wrexham attacking play that was easily dealt with. Elliott Bennett made a superb run from the edge of his own penalty area all the way down to the Wrexham left wing were he was able to force the ball out of play for a corner. The Shakers however couldn't capitalize on the winger's superb effort as Brian Barry-Murphy's corner was cleared away by the Wrexham defence.

As the game past the 20 minute mark, Bury were beginning to take advantage of the Wrexham back lines shaky start. On 21 minutes Andy Bishop went for goal from way outside the penalty area, which forced a low but easy save by Gavin Ward. Just one minute later The Shakers were back on the attack, and had their best chance of the game so far when Nicky Adams crossed the ball into the six yard box looking for Andy Bishop. Wrexham keeper Gavin Ward dived to try and win the ball, but he misjudged it leaving the net empty. Andy Bishop tried to capitalize on this by controlling the ball and firing a close range effort at goal, but keeper Gavin Ward was quickly back on his feet and made the superb save. Wrexham however were looking good going forward, and they took advantage when Sam Aiston made a superb surging run forward through the Bury defence and into the penalty area. Aiston fired a good powerful shot at goal which forced Darren Randolph into a superb parry. However, the ball deflected kindly for Drewe Broughton who was able to tap the ball into the empty net from near the left hand post.

As the game approached halftime, Bury were looking for a way back into the tie before the interval. However, their late push nearly ended catastrophically when Drewe Broughton lobbed the ball towards the Bury goal from way outside the penalty area. The ball had just enough height to beat keeper Darren Randolph, but luckily for The Shakers the ball smashed against the crossbar. Bury have the best comeback record in the league, and they added to that tally when Brian Barry-Murphy fired a curling free kick into the penalty area from the left hand side deep to the edge of the six yard box. Glynn Hurst managed to out jump his marker and head the ball into the top left hand corner of the goal to give Bury the equalizer.

Halftime: Wrexham 1-1 Bury

Wrexham started the second half immediately on the attack, and were beginning to put pressure on the Bury defence. On 49 minutes Drewe Broughton nearly got the go ahead goal when he fired a good shot from close range which forced a superb save from Darren Randolph. Just a few minutes later Bury had a chance on their own when Brian Barry-Murphy fired a good corner into the penalty area, but the ball was cleared. However, Efe Sodje was able to head the ball back into the area for Nicky Adams who attempted a volley, but was unable to make contact with the ball.

The game began to calm down as the second half continued as the game began to get scrappy. Wrexham however were continuing to make runs forward but were unable to find the finishing touch. However, the home side finally got the goal they were looking for with around 12 minutes to go when Michael Proctor went for goal from the edge of the six yard box. Darren Randolph tried to block the ball, but it was moving to fast as it snuck underneath him into the back of the goal.

Goal Wrexham 2-1 Bury (Michael Proctor 78)

Bury were looking for an instant reply, and they nearly got what they were looking for when Andy Bishop tried knock the ball into the net from close range, but his shot lacked power as Gavin Ward made the easy save. The Shakers though continued to fire the ball forward in the closing minutes to try and find the equalizer, but their deep position up field nearly extended Wrexham's lead even further when Michael Proctor made a long surging run into the Bury half and into a one-on-one battle with keeper Darren Randolph. Proctor fired a good shot at goal, but the ball went just inches wide of the left hand post.

The defeat did not harm The Shakers league position as they remain in 17th place, but the drop zone gains on them after a victory for Mansfield reduced the gap to nine points.
