16 points for the month, a third clean sheet on the bounce, another Nicky Adams goal & Bury charging up the table - the positives just keep on coming for Bury.
Bury's first visit to the New Meadow could go down as instantly forgettable as in truth the game was poor as an entertaining spectacle, the weather tried its best to spoil the day and consistent decisions from an over fussy referee will make most of the day slip away into insignificance - apart from a Nicky Adams goal that stunned many and Bury's remarkable upturn in fortunes continuing with another win on the road.
Shrewsbury began the game brightly and the front combination of Cooke & Hibbert quickly began to cause problems for the visitors, a third minute Dave Hibbert drive caused some concern to the Bury back line, though in reality, his wind assisted shot was always flying high and wide of the target.
Hibbert again caused problems on six minutes when the impressive Efe Sodje was forced into conceding a free kick on the edge of the box.Three months ago, such situations would have had Bury fans panicking and expecting defeat, but not now.Ben Davies took the resulting free kick, and again, with a little wind assistance, over cooked his delivery into the box allowing Futcher to marshal the ball out of play for a goal kick.
With both sides struggling to play in the conditions, a heavy wind down the pitch and horizontal rain following, Shrewsbury seemed to be over hitting balls forward whist Bury seemed to struggle in getting the ball up the field.A Shrewsbury corner on eleven minutes brought another poor delivery into the Bury box that was easily dealt with, but not cleared effectively with Randolph's clearance almost arcing back on itself.
Dave Hibberts' 14th minute foul on Ben Futcher had the Bury defender writhing around on the floor in agony which brought the Shrews leading scorer a yellow card. With the 468 travelling Bury fans screaming for a red card, referee Singh seemed intent on not providing to their wishes and produced a yellow, which was more deserving for the challenge.
Bury's first real chance fell on 17 minutes, a good through ball from Elliott Bennett was quickly collected by Andy Bishop, his quick shot on target though had former Shakers keeper Glynn Garner diving to push the ball out for the Shakers first corner of the afternoon.
David Buchanan and Nicky Adams combined well minutes later deep in the Shrews half of the field and with some crisp sharp passing won a second corner. Both corners though had thus far failed to yield any meaningful efforts on goal.
A Shrewsbury free kick on 30 minutes should have produced the opening goal of the afternoon.Ben Davies lifted over the five man Bury wall and seemed to be dipping perfectly, but the effort flew comfortably into a perfectly positioned Darren Randolph who held the ball firmly without moving.
Referee Jarnail Singh confused many on 36 minutes when he blew for a Shrewsbury free kick, with no obvious signs of a challenge or foul having been made, confusion reigned, until Mr Singh seemed to change his mind and awarded a drop ball right in front of the Bury goal that Randolph cleared, though in reality Shrewsbury did not contest the decision.
Neither side created any further chances of note as the first half slowly wound down, with perhaps the driving wind and rain being the only winners from the opening 45 minutes.
The second half began brightly for Bury, and with the wind helping to get ball forward, the ball was pushed into space for Elliott Bennett to chase. He seemed to have the better of defender Lee and was bearing down on goal.Lee got back and hacked the on loan Wolves player to the floor. With the visiting crowd baying for a red card, and perhaps a few Shrewsbury fans expecting one, Mr Singh produced another yellow card and it was later learnt that Mr Singh had told Bennett that he didn't consider Lee as the last defender - hence the yellow card.
The resulting free kick though was wasted and Shrewsbury easily cleared the ball up the field.Moments later and the home side should have opened the scoring when Dave Hibbert burst into the box and caught a perfect delivery from the impressive Michael Barnes, Hibberts first touch took the ball into the box and Sodje gave chase.Just as the Salop striker struck the ball, it seemed a goal was the only outcome, but Efe Sodje will more than likely claim that he had the final touch as the ball flew high over the target, to which the referee awarded a goal kick to Bury.
The home side went through a five or six minute spell where they wasted some excellent chances to grab the points.First Steve Leslie headed just wide of the post with the goal gaping, and then Davies fired the ball well wide of the target. The game seemed to be drawing to an inevitable 0-0 draw.
With 70 minutes gone, Bury got the ball forward and a clever ball from Futcher fell nicely at the feet of Nicky Adams. His first touch took the ball forward and to the corner of the Shrewsbury box. With Bishop screaming for a delivery and Rooney peeling off towards the back post, Nicky Adams delivered the ball towards the top corner of Glynn Garners back post, but a cruel twist of fate was to send the ball straight into the back of the net via the underside of the crossbar, to all but seal the win for Bury.
With just ten minutes of the game remaining, a Ben Davies cross into the Bury box found Hibbert in space, his glancing header though would suggest a player low on confidence as his effort flew well wide of the target and away from danger.Richie Baker had a good chance to double Bury's lead moments later when he flicked the ball into the air and volleyed his own flick on target, though straight down Garner's throat.
With four minutes of injury time played out and worn down by the Bury players, referee Singh brought the afternoon's events to a half to a chorus of boos from three sides of the ground as a happy 468 Bury fans erupted in the rain soaked away end.
