A dominant first half display from the Shakers won the game at Griffin Park with two goals inside two minutes from Nicky Adams and Glynn Hurst, plus a brace of goals from Andy Bishop. Brentford grabbed a consolation goal from the spot in the second half, but it was the Shakers who strolled to an excellent three points.
Dave Challinor and Adam Rooney both failed to make the starting eleven following injuries picked up at Peterborough on Saturday.Ben Futcher and Glynn Hurst were drafted in by Alan Knill to replace the pair, whilst Andy Parrish and Domaine Rouse came back to the Shakers bench.
Efe Sodje was called into action early in the game when Connell stole into the Bury box forcing the on-loan Gillingham defender to stretch to clear the ball away from danger, from the clearance, the Shakers charged forward and an Andy Bishop shot was pushed out for a Bury corner.Nicky Adams' corner though was headed on target by Glynn Hurst, but straight into the arms of keeper Ben Hamer.
Wayne Brown collected a loose ball on 11 minutes on the edge of the Bury box, with a quick turn of feet, the Brentford player drove the ball at goal that brought a superb save from Darren Randolph.
Within a minute, the Shakers had taken the lead when Nicky Adams hit the ball at goal from the edge of the Brentford box and watched delighted as the ball beat Hamer to nestle in the back of the net.
Goal: Brentford 0 Bury 1 (Nicky Adams 12)
Brentford looked to get back into the game two minutes later when Glenn Poole drove a good effort on goal but again Darren Randolph was more than a match to the effort and held the ball well.
From Randolph's long clearance, the ball eventually fell to Glynn Hurst, with a good ball from Andy Bishop, around 18 yards out.The Gigg Lane favourite hit the ball first time to the lower right corner of goal to double the Shakers advantage.
Goal: Brentford 0 Bury 2 (Glynn Hurst 14)
It only took a further two minutes for the Shakers to open up the home defence again but the move was abruptly stopped when Hurst was flagged offside by the officials.Bury's dominance was again in force again a moment later when Nicky Adams forced Hamer into a good save with a crisp shot on the edge of the box.
Frustration was high amongst the home fans with Bury looking like they could grab a hat full this evening.A poor display from the Bee's was helping the Shakers strolling through the game.
Frustration was also becoming evident amongst the Bee's players when Gary Smith received a yellow card on 27 minutes for a foul on Nicky Adams. The resulting free kick saw Buchanan fire the ball towards the Brentford box, but this time the home defence managed to combine effectively to clear.
Bury nearly grabbed a third on 32 minutes when they charged on goal but Nicky Adams had just drifted into an offside position as he took the ball inside the Brentford box.
Bury's lead became three on 37 minutes when a threaded ball forward found Andy Bishop, his first sublime touch lofted the ball over a rooted Ben Hamer and dropped calmly into the back of the net to register his 18th goal of the season.
Goal: Brentford 0 Bury 3 (Andy Bishop 37)
Brentford's Nathan Elder received a yellow card on 42 minutes, when perhaps some referee's would have shown red. A string of bad tackles, combined with a lunge on Nicky Adams only received a yellow, but moments atter receiving the yellow, he nearly collected another with a foul on Efe Sodje.
The first half has been stunning for the travelling Shakers with three first half goals - a first this season - how many can we score in the second half.
Half time: Brentford 0 Bury 3
Former Shaker Andy Scott made two changes at the break with another former Shaker Ricky Shakes and Rueben Reid coming on to replace Sankofa and Brown.
With two changes having been made, the home side started the second half looking to get some pride back into their performance and could possibly have had a penalty within five minutes of the re-start. Alan Connell took the ball into the box and a good challenge by David Buchanan took the ball and man, with the home support screaming for a penalty, and the Bury players doing exactly the opposite, the official raised both arms in front of him to signal play on.
Ricky Shakes did exceptionally well on 51 minutes with a good run down the flank before he cut into the box, the chance was there for the former Bolton youngster to convert but instead of taking the easy route, Shakes took the hard route and attempted the spectacular and allowed the Bury defence to easily clear the ball. Glenn Poole also drilled a shot just wide of the post moments later. Bury's dominance was evident when the home side were awarded their first corner on 53 minutes. The ball was whipped in where Elder had a header cleared off the line, but Efe Sodje had used his hand to stop the ball and he received a yellow card and a penalty was awarded to the home side. Glenn Poole calmly took the penalty and sent Randolph the wrong way and gave Brentford a slim chance of getting a result.
Goal: Brentford 1 Bury 3 (Glenn Poole 56 Pen)
Irony was evident on the hour when the home side won their second corner and the home side produced a good ironic round of applause.
Bury should have grabbed their three goal lead back on 60 minutes when Elliott Bennett took the ball into the box using his pace, with the last defender trailing in his wake, keeper Hamer charged off his line and smothered the ball at the feet of the onloan Wolves winger.
A six man flowing move by the home side was briught to an abrupt half with Alan Connell attempting a spectacular overhead kick. His trailing foot though smashed Andy Bishop and he referee awarded a free kick to the Shakers but with the home side stepping up their tempo from the first half, the danger signs were plainly evident to the 139 Bury fans that made the trip.
Gary Smith produced another good effort on 65 minutes when he took the ball to the edge of the box and crossed to the far post, luckily for Bury the cross was too high for Connell, though many were left wondering why Smith didnt take the shot on goal.
Darren Randolph had some rare action on 68 minutes when a Nathan Elder volley was tipped around the post for a Brentford corner. From the corner, the ball was lofted into the box, but a foul on Futcher brought the move to a halt.
Glynn Hurst wore the seconds down when he was replaced by Richie Baker on 75 minutes, Hursty turned his walk off into the longest march before finally taking his place in the Bury dugout.
Bury had a rare second half shot on 80 minutes when Nicky Adams took the ball on the counter attack, his shot from the edge of the box though was easily held by Ben Hamer, and his quick clearance down the field set up the home side for another good passing move that finished with Ricky Shakes heading the ball wide of the target.
Bury made it four on 83 minutes when good work from Nicky Adams saw the pint sized Bury player deliver the ball on a plate to Bishop who rammed it home to seal the win and grabbed his 19th goal of the season.
Goal: Brentford 1 Bury 4 (Andy Bishop 83)
The home side looked to grab another goal on 88 minutes when a Randolph punch fell to Gary Smith, but his fierce drive back at goal went straight down the Shakers keeper's throat.
Finally the referee brought the game to a close and although the fight isnt over, the result will certainly make Bury fans breath a little easier - as long as we don't make a mess of it on Saturday....
