Top of the table Bury charged into a two goal half time lead at the Recreation Ground with strikes from Andy Bishop and Paul Scott. The stunning start to the season showed signs of being extended to new heights following this opening 45 minutes.

Alan Knill spoke on Thursday of talking our game to Aldershot and giving the home side something to think about. With the Shots unbeaten at home in absolute ages, all the signs pointed to a tough afternoon ahead, but what followed had many of the 300+ travelling Bury fans drooling for more.

Bury almost got off to a dream start with just 15 seconds of the game gone with Andy Bishop slipping the ball into the path of Mike Jones , with his first goal for the club looking almost inevitable, the former Tranmere Rovers player somehow managed to drive his firm shot wide of the target though.

With injury and illness decimating the home side, to such an extent that the Shots only managed to name four players on the bench, but they offered little in the opening exchanges as a confident Bury took the game to the home side, but it was to be around 20 minutes before the Shakers carved open a stubborn home defence.

A long clearance flew over the top of former Barnet defender Anthony Charles, the former Bee had impressed many in years past with some very strong performances, particularly at Gigg Lane.Keeper Ruiz attempted to clear the effort but his ball fell to Andy Morrell, his attempt hit sweetly with a first time effort, smashed off the top of the crossbar and was quickly smashed clear by the nervous looking back line.

Buy eventually got their noses in front on 24 minutes when a right wing cross from Elliott Bennett found Andy Bishop in his usual goal sniffing mode and a simple right footed pass saw the back of the net bulge for a deserved lead.

Goal: Aldershot Town 0 Bury 1 (Andy Bishop 24)

It took the Shakers another six minutes to double the advantage and again it was a set piece that opened up the game.A Brian Barry-Murphy corner on 30 minutes saw player of the season Paul Scott head the ball down and into the back of the net for the Shakers skipper's third goal of the season.

Goal:Aldershot Town 0 Bury 2 (Paul Scott 30)

The home side briefly rallied before half time, but could not penetrate a Bury defence , Scott Davies and Marvin Morgan both had chances with the former smashing one at goal from 25 yards and a good header from Morgan, but both chances failed to break through Wayne Brown. The Aldershot Town website mentions the home side looking for some damage limitation before the break, such was the Shakers domination, but it was the manner in which Bury had played that impressed many of the travelling army.

Half Time:Aldershot Town 0 Bury 2

Nothing changed as the second half began with the home keeper making a collection of good saves to deny the visitors.Andy Bishop in particular seemed keen to add to his tally.Bury should have made it three goals for the afternoon with six minutes of the second period played as Bury carved the home side up, chewed them up and spat out the remnants.A stunning Bury move finished with Bishop firing the ball at goal from 20 yards struck his strike partner Andy Morrell as a goal looked inevitable, though that was to come a minute later.

A free kick awarded to Bury on the edge of the Aldershot box saw Andy Bishop slam the ball home - again from a set piece.Surely this should have been enough to take all three points - apparently not!!!!

Goal:Aldershot Town 0 Bury 3

Aldershot made a change on 63 minutes with Elvin replacing Morgan. The change was to be dramatic. It took just five minutes for Elvin to make his mark as a good header into the corner of the goal made it 3-1.Surley it had to be a simple consolation goal - not a chance.

Goal:Aldershot Town 1 Bury 3 (Rob Elvin 69)

The goal obviously had some sort of affect on the home side as all of a sudden they started to show some confidence. They surged forward looking to grab another goal when a cross into the box suddenly had the home side appealing for a penalty. The ball had seemingly struck the hand of skipper Paul Scott and referee Gibb duly obliged.Scott Davies placed the ball on the spot before driving it into the bottom corner - now it was game on.

Goal:Aldershot Town 2 Bury 3 (Scott Davies 77 (Pen))

With the home side obviously lifted, and the home support firmly behind their team, it took the Shots another two minutes to produce the impossible, but what a way to come.Danny Hylton collected the ball and set off like a man on a mission. He charged at goal and brushed aside two challenges before stealing into the box where he drove the ball across Wayne Brown and into the back of the net to stun the Bury crowd and send his home fans into frantic celebrations.

Goal:Aldershot Town 3 Bury 3 (Danny Hlyton 79)

All of a sudden it was Bury that were hanging on, stunned and shell shocked, we were on the back foot. Now we had to score four to take the win and it nearly came through Elliott Bennett.Unmarked at the back stick, his effort brought a good save from keeper Ruiz.

With the Shakers suddenly hanging on, the final ten minutes seemed to take hours to play out, but when the final whistle did come, it was the home side celebrating and the Shakers heading off the field with heads down.It feels like a defeat when a third away defeat should have been on the cards.
