On 17 minutes the visitors nearly took the lead when Paul Furlong fired the ball at goal on the volley after a corner from the left hand side, but the ball went just over the crossbar. With 25 minutes gone Bury returned to the attack when Andy Morrell did superbly well under pressure to play the ball to the left hand side to Andy Bishop who had just enough room to fire a clean shot at goal, but the Barnet keeper Ran Kadoch managed to make the save.

Paul Furlong came close once again for the visitors on 34 minutes when he tried to fire the ball in from close range, but debutant keeper Mark Tyler made a superb reaction save. Just three minutes later Bury took the lead when Michael Jones won the ball deep in the Barnet half. Michael Jones made no mistakes with the finish slotting it past the Barnet keeper and into the bottom left hand corner of the goal.

Halftime: Bury 1-0 Barnet

Bury started the second half straight on the attack when Michael Jones looked to score his second of the day when he fired a good strike across the face of goal, but the ball went just wide of the left hand post. On 50 minutes Bury were back on the attack again when Elliott Bennett played a superb ball forward for Andy Bishop who burst through the Barnet defence and left nothing but the keeper in front of him. The Barnet keeper Ran Kadoch came flying out of his penalty area and blocked Andy Bishop's rushed strike well, and luckily for the visitors the ball went just over the crossbar.

On 63 minutes Bury nearly doubled their lead when Michael Jones played the ball through to Andy Bishop on the edge of the penalty area. Bishop fired a superb curling shot at goal but the Barnet keeper was able to make the good save. Just one minute later the Barnet keeper was called into action again when Michael Jones played a superb cross into the six yard box for Andy Morrell whose towering header looked set to be a goal, but the Barnet keeper made a superb save tipping the ball over the bar.

Elliott Bennett looked set to give Bury the huge advantage on 74 minutes when he charged through the Barnet defence and fired a good low drive at goal, but the Barnet keeper was once again to the rescue as he tipped the ball just wide of the right hand post. Barnet through everyone forward in the dying seconds of the game, but the Bury defence stayed strong and held on for the win.
