ON a snow covered pitch, Andy Morrell was presented with a good chance on three minutes, with space opening up in front of him he flicked the ball into the middle for Ryan Lowe, but his shot was tamely hit at keeper Colgan.A succession of Bury corners from Barry-Murphy saw the home defence quickly clear their lines, despite some good runs form Sodje & Futcher.

A Grimsby corner on 12 minutes saw Buchanan & Dawson combining to clear the ball but only as far as leary, his crisp shot though flew harmlessly wide of the target and out for a Bury goal kick.A foul by Sodje on Proudlock on 14 minutes brought a free kick in a good position. Peter Sweeney's delivery brought a bout of head tennis before Futcher cleared out for a second Grimsby corner

A good defensive header from Sodje on 18 minutes saw him whip the ball away from Akpro, his quick header forward saw Ryan Lowe give chase but a back pass from Atkinson just got the ball clear ahead of Lowe., from his clearance the home side surged forward but a foul by Newey handed a free kick to Grimsby. From that free kick Featherstone rammed the ball at goal but brought a stunning save from Wayne Brown.

Grimsby came forward again on 26 minutes with Akpro getting forward, Sodje did well to hold the man off the ball and out for a goal kick.Moments later Brown charged out of his box to stop Akpro, the player went down and Grimsby were awarded a free kick with the Bury keeper getting a yellow card. The resulting free kick saw Sweeney fire the ball into the side netting and away for a Bury goal kick.

A sweeping Bury move on 30 minutes saw Lowe flick the ball wide for Worrall, his quick ball into the middle of the area though saw Morrell leap, but miss the connection by inches allowing Proudlock to smash the ball down the field and clear.A Bury throw in the Grimsby corner brought some nice football from the Shakers but resulted in nothing as Worrall slipped the ball out for a goal kick.

A good chance on 34 minutes saw a good comedy moment as both Dawson, Morrell and keeper Colgan all slip allowing the ball to roll across the box untouched, moments later Bury should have taken the lead when Lowe received the ball, a quick turn in holding the ball saw him shoot across the keeper and unfortunately onto the upright, before the ball bounced nicely back into the keepers hands.

Ryan Lowe and David Worrall combined superbly on 40 minutes with crisp passing in the corner, eventually Worrall fashioned a deep cross that brought some acrobatic shooting from Andy Morrell. With his back to goal, Morrell managed to loop over the bar and into the crowd. The bicycle kick didn't quite work but the effort was there.

Grimsby closed the first half by trying a long range effort from Coulson, his shot though bounced off the hard surface and flew straight into the grateful arms of Wayne Brown.

Half Time:Grimsby Town 0 Bury 0

Bury started the second half but the home side surged forward from a loose ball forward.Bore took the ball into the corner before Tom Newey came across to hammer the ball out of play for a corner. The corner was floated into the bos where Proudlock hammered a strong header at goal, Stephen Dawson leapt to head the ball off the line. That action was to be Dawson's last as he was replaced by Paul Scott moments later with an obvious injury.

A good Bury move on 51 minutes saw Ryan Lowe receive the ball on the edge of the area from a Mike Jones pass, his quick turn and shot though was deflected and the ball fell nicely for Nick Colgan to collect.Good flowing football from both sides around 55 minutes brought absolutely no chances from either side, but with both teams playing good football on a very difficult pitch.

Grimsby took the lead on 59 minutes when Proudlock surged forward for Grimsby, he played a quick ball to Akrp who lifted the ball over a sprawling Wayne Brown to give the home side the advantage.

Goal:Grimsby Town 1 Bury 0 (Akpro 59)

Bury looked to hit back straight away with a good run from Dave Worrall, his quick pass to Lowe though was hoofed out for a Bury throw that the home side easily cleared up the field.Following Grimsby's goal, Proudlock left the field with a facial injury and was instantly replaced with by Barry Conlon, who usually does well against the Shakers.

Bury again applied plenty of pressure on 70 minutes with Jones and Lowe combining well, Jones' cross into the bix saw Colgan fly of his line and punch the ball clear and away from Morrell.Bury's pressure wasn't really testing the home keeper and the Mariners did well to keep the Shakers at Bay.

Akpro had another good chance on 74 minutes when Akpro again got through the Bury back line, but just as he was about to pull the trigger, he found a charging Wayne Brown wrapped around his feet pushing the ball clear.

Michael Coulson crafted another good chance for Grimsby by holding the ball and running along the touch line, his cross into the box had Wayne Brown all but beaten, but Tom Newey was on hand to smash clear as Conlon charged in for the ball.

A Bury corner on 82 minutes saw the entire Grimsby team inside their own area, BBM's corner was easily cleared to Racchi, his cross though was easily cleared before Jones found Lowe inside the box, his quick turn and shot though saw his shot lift high above the bar and into the Bury fans behind the goal.

Danny Racchi played a superb ball forward on 88 minutes to Ryan Lowe, his quick turn saw him felled by Linwood and the referee pointed straight to the spot.Lowe took the spot kick and slammed it into the roof of the net to make it 1-1.
