Shrewsbury Town vs Bury - Reported by Hannah Ingram at the Prostar Stadium

After a thrilling 3-3 draw at home to Notts County last week, Bury looked to possibly settle some old scores away at Shrewsbury. After losing out to the Shrews in the play off semi-finals last season on penalties, Bury started this season with somewhat of a hangover. Adding a plethora of injuries to this problem make the first few games of the season hard, but the Shakers have found their feet and have put in some good shifts and seen themselves steadily climb the table. Today's trip to Shropshire saw Bury facing a side also on the cusp of the playoffs, and the bad weather also looked certain to play a part.

A looping cross from Cansdell-Sherriff on 8 minutes looked dangerous before Wayne Brown got up well to gather. Nardiello worked hard to control a long ball forward on 11 minutes which was being blown around by the strong winds, before running at the Shrewsbury backline and eventually being fouled for a Bury free kick. Danny Racchi took the free kick from outside the box, but powered it into the wall, giving Bury a corner. Taken deep into the box by Jones, it reached the head of Cresswell but his header was well wide.

Dawson made a surging run forward on 22 minutes before Shrewsbury intervened and put the ball out for a corner. Taken from the right by BBM, it was cleared for another corner, which BBM took once more, looking for the head of Morrell who got up well and saw his header headed off the line. It was Bury's first real chance on goal in a game that was made much harder to play by the weather. Hibbert had a shot on goal on 25 minutes after deceiving Cresswell and Sodje by making space for himself on the right. Shooting across the goal, Brown got down to gather.

GOAL! Bury took the lead in style on 28 minutes, with Nardiello getting his name on the score sheet for the second game running. After working his way into the box from the left, he crossed to Morrell who then laid the ball on a plate for him to finish with a strong shot, into the top right hand corner.

A promising cross from Racchi on the left of the box on 31 minutes teed up Jones on the far side, but his header was well over the bar. The remainder of the half saw both sides struggle with circling winds before Shrewsbury had a long range free kick effort saved by Brown. Morrell had been off the field for treatment after a collision that saw Shrewsbury awarded a free kick for what looked like an obstruction on Shrewsbury's part.

Two minutes of additional time were indicated by the fourth official as the rain swept across the pitch. The first half was soon over and Bury took their 1-0 lead to the dressing room. The game had been pretty uneventful thus far aside from some banter between both sets of fans about last season. The weather didn't look set to let up, setting up a difficult second period.

Half Time - Shrews 0 Shakers 1

Cresswell came close to putting the ball in his own net on 47 minutes after he headed a cross clear for a corner. Taken from the left by McIntyre, it skimmed dangerously in front of goal but was eventually cleared. The home fans were shouting for an apparent handball, but Bury kept possession and moved forward.

A low shot from Fairhurst outside the box on 51 minutes challenged Brown, but he got down well in enough time to gather the ball by the left post. After Racchi was awarded a free kick on the right of the box on 54 minutes, BBM crossed the free kick low in front of goal to the head of Sodje, who headed wide.

A foul by ex-Shaker Terry Dunfield on Dawson on 62 minutes saw Bury awarded a free kick ten yards outside the box. Taken low by Jones and with power, it was saved by Arestidou in the Shrewsbury goal.

Substitution for Shrewsbury on 64 minutes - Omer Riza on for Terry Dunfield

A cross from Buchanan on the right on 69 minutes reached the head of Nardiello in front of goal, but he put his header wide of the left post.

Double substitution for Shrewsbury on 73 minutes - Nathan Elder on for Waide Fairhurst, Jake Robinson on for David Hibbert

A cross from McIntyre on the left wing on 74 minutes looped in the wind and saw Brown having to tip it wide of the post.

Substitution for Bury on 77 minutes - David Worrall on for Danny Racchi

Worrall took the ball for a run down the right wing on 81 minutes, before cutting insider, skimming one defender before teeing up a shot that was blocked. Jones tried his luck from the left of the box moments later with a low powerful shot that was saved by Arestidou and put out for a corner. BBM took it from the right aiming for the head of Sodje but the ball skimmed away from the box.

Substitution for Bury on 84 minutes - Paul Scott on for Andy Morrell

Worrall broke free moments after the substitution, shooting from the left of the box only to see it go wide.

GOAL! Shrewsbury brought things level with moments of normal time remaining as he rose up well to a cross and headed across the goal and beat Wayne Brown.

Shrews 1 Shakers 1

Four minutes of added time were indicated by the fourth official as Bury won a corner on the left hand side. Taken by Jones, it was cleared by Shrewsbury for a quick canter attack, but it was judged to be offside. Bury continued to press for a late winner but it was in vain as the game was soon over.

Shrewsbury left it late to earn a point but did so with a well taken header from Coughlan. Once the wind and rain seemed to lessen, both sides seemed to get the ball down and play. Bury will feel aggrieved to let an early lead go, but the unbeaten league run continues and the Shakers have a home fixture coming up on Tuesday to try and capitalise on.
