Rotherham United vs Bury - Reported by Hannah Ingram at the Don Valley Stadium

Following a tough afternoon at Macclesfield last week which saw them lose 2-0, Bury travelled over the Pennines to face a Rotherham side only two points away from them in the table. Bury dropped out of the automatic promotion places in the week, and they now occupy fourth place.

As a result of Ryan Lowe's red card in the previous game and subsequent three-match ban, Bury boss Alan Knill brought in a replacement in the form of Keigan Parker on loan from Oldham. He was put into the starting XI alongside Tom Elliot at the front, in the hope that some desperately needed goals would arrive.

Ian Sharps wasted a golden chance for Rotherham on 13 minutes after a crowded penalty box failed to deal with a corner from the right. Turning and shooting from close range, he somehow managed to put the ball over the bar. Adam Le Fondre then managed to put the ball wide from in front of goal on 19 minutes after another dangerous corner from the Millers.

Bury's closest chance arrived on 23 minutes after a dangerous corner from Michael Jones on the left. It reached the head of Efe Sodje at the near post and went just wide as it skimmed in front of goal.

A confident move forwards from Parker on 36 minutes saw him make space on the right of the box before crossing to Elliot in front of goal. He was soon challenged to the ball and Rotherham took the play up field.

Two minutes of additional time were indicated by the fourth official as Rotherham were awarded a free kick on the left of the box following a foul from Sodje. Playing the offside trap, the ball was then gathered by Wayne Brown in the Bury net.

Time was soon called on a half which saw both sides contending with a difficult surface, but a half that had created chances for both sides. Rotherham seemed to have the better chances on goal, missing from close range more than once, but Bury looked miles better than the side who were beaten by Macclesfield.

After breaking clear from Sodje on the left wing, Le Fondre then sent in a cross along the ground which was palmed away by Brown and into the path of BBM, giving him time to clear. Moments later and Marcus Marshall sent a powerful drive goal-bound from the edge of the box, forcing a diving save from Brown.

GOAL! After a fairly uneventful second half, disaster struck for the Shakers with ten minutes of play remaining. Numerous attempts at clearing their lines from Bury left Josh Walker with the ball twenty yards out, and he sent a powerful shot into the right of the net.

Three minutes of added time were indicated by the fourth official as Bury took the ball forward.

A cross from Worrall on the left in added time met the head of Andy Morrell in front of goal, and his headed effort struck the crossbar and went over.

Time was soon called on another miserable afternoon for the Shakers. It became clear that one goal would win it, and Rotherham eventually took their chance when it was presented to them. With Bury struggling to find the net, it seemed a dream scenario for the Millers as the visitors didn't look threatening enough to pull a goal back despite a late chance for Morrell.

The Shakers had failed to score from open play in nine matches, and they need to find their shooting boots soon to stop the slide down the table.
