Bury vs Aldershot Town - Reported by Hannah Ingram at Gigg Lane

After losing on the road at the Don Valley Stadium last weekend, Bury returned to home turf and a sunny Gigg Lane to face Aldershot. The Shakers had slipped into the play off places in recent games, and the Shots were sitting just below them, eyeing up a place in the end-of-season lottery.

Bury opened up the Aldershot defence on 2 minutes after Keigan Parker made some space at the right corner flag. Crossing for Michael Jones in front of goal, his shot was deflected away from goal and out for a corner. Ryan Cresswell then had a header cleared off the line moments later following a corner from BBM on the right.

Tom Elliot failed to take advantage of some shaky Aldershot defending on 14 minutes; a dangerous backwards header from Aaron Brown didn't make it to the hands of keeper Jaimez-Ruiz, and with Elliot pressing, he soon had hold of the ball but somehow missed an open net and rolled the ball wide.

David Worrall made the most of a forward ball from Cresswell on 19 minutes, taking the ball deep into the penalty area. Crossing into a group of players from both sides, the ball eventually fell to BBM whose shot lacked the power to challenge Jaimez-Ruiz, allowing him to catch it instead.

Yellow card for Bury on 26 minutes - Stephen Dawson

GOAL! Aldershot were awarded a penalty on 28 minutes after a foul from Cresswell on Marvin Morgan. In their first attempt on goal, the Shots took the lead courtesy of Scott Donnelly who shot to the left; Wayne Brown dived the right way and got a hand to it, but it wasn't enough to keep it out.

Three minutes of added time were indicated by the fourth official as Bury took the ball forward courtesy of a free kick from BBM. Cleared by the Shots for a corner on the right hand side, BBM sent the ball into the box only to go out of play for an Aldershot goal kick.

Time was soon called on a strange first half for Bury. They had been undoubtedly the better side and will have felt unlucky to be behind going into the break. A clumsy penalty to give away meant Aldershot had the upper hand, if not the better football.

Half Time - Shakers 0 Shots 1

Substitution for Bury on 52 minutes - Tom Newey on for Paul Scott

GOAL! Aldershot doubled their lead and Donnelly's tally in style on 55 minutes; a half clearance from Ben Futcher from the left wing gave the ball back to Aldershot, and Donnelly teed up a long-range effort from outside the box which beat Wayne Brown and landed in the bottom left hand corner.

Double substitution for Bury on 58 minutes - James Poole on for Michael Jones, Andy Bishop on for Keigan Parker

Yellow card for Bury on 66 minutes - Ben Futcher

BBM tried a shot from an acute angle on the right of the box on 71 minutes but hit the side netting.

Substitution for Aldershot on 71 minutes - Louis Soares on for Oliver Bozanic

A reaction save from Wayne Brown on 76 minutes kept Bury's deficit at two goals as he kept out a close range header from substitute Damian Spencer.

Bury had the ball in the back of the net on 82 minutes courtesy of newest loanee James Poole, but the headed ball forward from Bishop came from an offside position.

Yellow card for Aldershot on 83 minutes - Ben Herd

A clever through ball from Andy Bishop on 84 minutes saw Dawson clean through on goal before being upended as he made his way into the box by Jaimez-Ruiz and saw Bury awarded a penalty.

Red card for Aldershot on 84 minutes - Mikhael Jaimez-Ruiz

Substitution for Aldershot on 84 minutes - Jamie Young on for Marvin Morgan

GOAL! Andy Bishop placed the ball on the spot and beat substitute keeper Young to give Bury a lifeline.

Shakers 1 Shots 2

A hectic final period saw five additional minutes indicated by the fourth official. Bury were pressing for a vital equaliser and were awarded a corner inside the first minutes of added time. Aldershot now had eleven men behind the ball and were making it tough.

Added time saw a plethora of corners for the home side but to no avail. The referee eventually called time on another frustrating afternoon for the Shakers. They may have hit the back of the net, but it was too little too late, and the drought of goals from open play continued. Bury were the better side in the first period but missing their easiest chance on goal seemed to knock their confidence and it took too long to return.
