Gordon Sorfleet at Sincil Bank

The Shakers 125th Anniversary celebrations commenced at 3:00pm at Lincoln City's Sincil Bank on a bright and warm sunny afternoon.Lincoln started the game by kicking off and passing the ball wide yo Danny Hone, his first touch though resulted in a Bury throw that the home defence swiftly dealt with by smacking it down the field.

An Efe Sodje challenge on 4 minutes brought the first powering run of the game from Stephen Dawson, his quick ball forward though saw Andy Bishop flagged off side though in reality David Stephens always had the pass covered.

Bury charged forward moments later with Bishop threading the ball sideward's, this quick pass released David Worrall who again charged to the Imps box, his shot cannoned off Stephens and flew straight to David Buchanan but his cross into the box was far too deep for anyone to latch onto.

A tenth minute Bury corner saw Barry-Murphy's delivery easily cleared by Stephens, the resulting ball back into thebox from Barry-Murphy saw Andy Bishop force the defender to clear the ball for a second corner, though this time Jones' delivery go deep, Paul Scott headed back into the box but the home defence quickly cleared their lines.

A 15th minutes Lincoln free kick, from a Mike Jones foul, saw Anderson curl the ball into the box only for Barry-Murphy to head the ball clear, Lennon collected the ball and quickly shot towards goal, though his shot drifted harmlessly wide of Cameron Belford's goal.

Another good run forward from Bury saw Worrall dink the ball into the box, Andy Morrell chased the ball down and forced Stephens to again tap the ball out for a Bury corner.Mike Jones took the corner quickly and played a short ball to Worrall, who quickly returned it to Jones, but the former Tranmere man had strayed into an offside position and any momentum was quickly lost.

Bury won a good free kick on 23 minutes when Andy Morrell was clipped from behind.Brian Barry-Murphy placed the ball whilst referee Singh paced the ten yards out.Unfortunately though, the delivery from Mike Jones drifted harmlessly wide of goal and out for a goal kick.

Another Bury corner on 26 minutes saw Barry-Murphy float the ball to the back post.Efe Sodje somehow managed to head the ball into the air three times before Jarnail Singh decided that one of them was illegal and blew for a free kick.

Bury's best move of the afternoon thus far came on 30 minutes with Buchanan teasing the ball to Andy Bishop, his floated ball into the box fell superbly for Stephen Dawson to latch onto, but the Shakers' skipper saw it a fraction too late giving keeper Rob Burch the time needed to grab the ball before the flying Irishman arrived to connect.

Lincoln produced their best move on 35 minutes when Brian Gilmour threatened to jink his way through the Bury defence - until he came across one Efe Sodje. His robust challenge got the ball away to Dawson who was himself fouled for a Bury free kick.Anderson got a yellow card whilst Jones quickly got the free kick forward.A quick flick form Bishop in the box saw Morrell quickly take the ball and fire a superb shot on target, somehow though Burch managed to tip the ball over the bar and out for a corner. The resulting corner brought the referee's whistle again and another free kick to Lincoln quickly ensured.Andy Bishop was then booked moments later for persistent fouling.

Bury burst forward again on 44 minutes with Jones down the far side, his quick one two with Bishop, Jones received the ball back again, took it into the box before lofting a clipped ball onto the roof of the net.A Bury corner in injury time saw BBM's delivery cleverly punched clear by Burch but still the Shakers came back, a good ball into the box from Cresswell was again well dealt with by keeper Burch as Morrell came steaming in.

Half Time:Lincoln City 0 Bury 0

The second half started with Lincoln looking threatening, but not for long.A quick Bury move on 48 minutes saw Jones fire the ball into the box.Andy Morrell attempted to volley the ball at goal but stood and watched as the ball fly harmlessly wide.

Another half chance came Bury's way on 51 minutes when David Worrall burst into the bix, the keeper cleared the ball in front of Worrall but he continued his run and collided with Lincoln's Danny Hone.Referee Singh spoke to both players before allowing the game to continue.

Lincoln made a change on 55 minutes with John-Lewis replacing Gilmour. From the restart, a Lincoln free kick was punched with some venom, the ball flew to Dave Worrall on the half way line and although his cross field ball was cut out, Paul Scott collected the ball and looped a shot on target that keeper Burch had to save.

Moments later an Andy Morrell cross was taken away from Bishop's head and pushed away for another Bury corner, though this time the home side scrambled the ball clear.Bury continued to press with Andy Morrell continuing to impress and his chested ball found Mike Jones, but again the ball just wouldn't drop for him to get a shot off on goal.

Jones and Morrell again combined on 62 minutes with the veteran Bury striker finding Jones just inside the box.Jones took one touch before shooting at goal, but failed to get enough weight behind the ball and allowed Burch to collect the ball.

Lincoln burst forward moments later with Steven Lennon swerving around the Bury defence, but pressure from Sodje and Cresswell forced the Red Imp to fire harmlessly wide of Belfords right hand post.David Buchanan fired a long range effort at goal on 68 minutes that gain drifted harmlessly wide of the target and moments later Danny Carlton replaced Andy Bishop.

Bury should have taken the lead on 73 minutes when David Worrall collected the ball in his own half, he moved the ball forward to Morrell who quickly found Carlton, his outside of the foot flick released Mike Jones. With the goal gaping and the home defence nowhere to be seen Jones somehow managed to fire the ball high over the bar.

Stephen Dawson delivered a good ball into the box on 77 minutes, his drilled cross found a back peddling Danny Carlton and his downwards header looped into the arms of keeper Rob Burch on the near post.Moments later Bury had another good chance, BBM sprayed the ball into the corner where David Buchanan stood unmarked, his looping ball to the back post though went unchallenged and the Shakers were made to pay from the goal kick.

Burch got the ball forward from the goal kick and the ball was quickly moved to Somma, his first touch though was to stab it past a stranded Cameron Belford to give the home side the lead.

Goal:  Lincoln City 1 Bury 1 (Somma 78)

Bury's response was to go three up top with Tom Elliott replacing Paul Scott.Within minutes Tom Elliott had pinged the ball into the far corner to James Poole, his first time cross into the box though, although hit with venom, failed to find a Bury foot and the home side cleared the danger.

Bury had a superb chance to get back into the game as four minutes of injury time, David Buchanan collected the ball on the far side and cut into the box, his firecly driven ball across the box though failed to find a Bury contact and the ball flew out for a Lincoln goal kick
