A warm stuffy evening in Hereford provided just the tonic for the 217 travelling Shakers supporters, and the 400 plus listening to our exclusive Shakers Player Commentary as the Shakers hit three goals for the first time since mid April.
The game didn't exactly start with such dominance though, more or less direct from the kick off, the Bulls fed the ball to former Shaker Marc Pugh, his quick run down the flank and subsequent cross saw Leon Constantine strike a powerful effort more or less right own Wayne Brown's throat.
More pressure came from the home side within 90 seconds, a good move from the wonderfully named Johnny Godsmark saw him drive the ball at goal, only for it to be deflected out for a corner by David Buchanan. The delivery once it did come found Paul Scott in good defensive form as he easily swept the ball up the field.
Signs of Bury's dominance came on five minutes, David Worrall's burst of pace as he cut inside the full back brought a sharp intake of breath from many, though his ball into the danger area for Ryan Lowe perhaps carried just a little too much pace as keeper Adam Bartlett raced off his line to smother the loose ball.
Marc Pugh and Leon Constantine, who last faced the Shakers as a Leeds United player, combined well on seven minutes with a sweet 1-2 combination, though again, the final ball wasn't quite as good as it should have been, and with Pugh desperate to score against his former side, the ball cruelly rolled off his knee and into the arms of Wayne Brown.
Moments later, the Shakers had their first meaningful attack. The impressive Domaine Rouse produced some good skill to bring the ball down from the air and attempt to take it around Darren Dennehy, though the lumbering Centre Half managed to produce a foul on Rouse just on the corner of the Bulls box.
The resulting free kick saw the Shakers take a ninth minute lead with a stunning kick from Mike Jones.Confusion for the home defence though was cleverly mastered by the Shakers think tank.Brian Barry-Murphy and Ryan Lowe both shaped up to hit the free kick, but both drifted off at the last moment, Jones simply stepped up and simply stroked the ball into a curling effort into the top left hand corner of Bartlett's goal, despite the keeper getting a finger nail to the ball, he was powerless in his attempt to keeping the ball out of the net.
Goal: Hereford United 0 Bury 1 (Mike Jones 9)
Hereford took just five minutes to hit back at the Shakers.Full back Ryan Green produced a blistering run down the right had side and fired a low crisp pass to Constantine stood on the edge of the Bury box.The lanky strikers first touch killed the balls momentum allowing him to quickly turn and firing a weekly struck shot at goal, the ball bobbled off the upright and into the back of the goal, leaving former Hereford keeper Wayne Brown, who had earlier received a brilliant ovation from the home fans, stranded as the ball nestled behind him.
Goal: Hereford United 1 Bury 1 (Leon Constantine 14)
Ten minutes later and the Shakers should have doubled the lead from the one player you wouldn't expect to see in such a forward position.Mike Jones and Stephen Dawson had produced a spell of sharp passing football, with Jones curling a delightful curling ball into the box, it needed just a touch to divert home, unfortunately, it was David Buchanan who found himself as last man in the box.If David had stuck his head on the ball we would have celebrated his first goal for the club with such ferocity, instead Buchanan attempted to bring the ball down with a high foot and the chance was lost. There's always next time David!!!
On 27 minutes, defender Efe Sodje, who was the brunt of much banter from the home crowd, produced one of his rare forward surges. He stormed out of his own half with the ball and played an exquisite 1-2 with Domaine Rouse, the final ball to the young Bury striker saw him take one touch before attempting to place the ball in the goal from the edge of the box, unfortunately a deflection took the ball wide of the target and out for a Bury corner.Five minutes later and Mike Jones found himself in a good area and with the goal in his sites.Just as he pulled the trigger though, Green stole in and smashed the ball clear and away for another Bury corner.
Hereford had their best chance since scoring on 33 minutes when striker Lee Morris received the ball just on the edge of the Bury box, his curling drive flew around Sodje, and thankfully the left hand post with Wayne Brown diving across the goal to cover.
The first half finished with Ryan Lowe slipping the ball to the impressive Mike Jones.Jonah took one touch, brought the ball inside of Dennehy, completely flat footing the defender in the process, and shot at goal, though this time his effort sailed comfortably wide of the target.
Half Time: Hereford United 1 Bury 1
Bury began the second half looking like a side that wanted success, and what a show they put on for the travelling faithful.
Three minutes into the second period, Ryan Lowe collected the ball in the middle of the Hereford half; a quick turn and spin brought him on target of the Hereford goal. His long range drive though was right down the keeper's throat and in the end proved to be an easy take for Adam Bartlett.
Though five minutes later, Bartlett was left floundering.Ryan Lowe again collected the ball out wide from a Mike Jones short pass.Lowe cut inside of Valentine the left back and fired a low curling shot across the keeper and into the back of the net.Lowe looked visibly relieved to have finally got off the mark with his first goal for the club.
Goal: Hereford United 1 Bury 2 (Ryan Lowe 51)
Two minutes Later and David Worrall, who continues to impress as each game comes and goes, took off down the flank like and express train. His run didn't last long though as left back Ryan Valentine cut his run short with a stern challenge that left Worrall writhing in pain and referee Roger East producing a yellow card.
Just on the hour, the mercurial Domaine Rouse and Worrall - who both came through the same youth team at Gigg Lane - combined again.Worrall laid of a deft ball to Rouse, with Worrall leaping high and above Dennehy, who was at least a foot taller, he produced a stunning header to find Rouse. His quick turn and shot on target just curled wide of the mark at the last moment leaving the youngster still searching for a second goal for the Shakers.
Bury should have stretched their lead on 74 minutes when Lowe tried to re-play his earlier strike, though this time from a much acute angle than the first, though his effort did have keeper Bartlett stretching as he dived across his goal, the ball sailed harmlessly wide on the far side this time.
The two Lowe's, Hereford's Keith and Bury's Ryan combined on 68 minutes, Defender Keith attempted to clear, but only passed the ball direct to Ryan.A quick interchange of passes involving Dawson and Rouse saw young Domaine fire the ball at goal, but again just wide of the target.
Mike Jones had another chance on 72 minutes but again his ball across the keeper flew wide of the target on the far side - Bury were pressing and it was only a matter of time before a third goal came.
Keeper Bartlett, arguably the busier of the two keepers, produced a stunning save to deny Mike Jones on 78 minutes'.Andy Morrell replaced Domaine Rouse with around ten minutes of the game to go and Morrell was heavily involved in the third goal.
A sharp interchange of passes from Worrell to Dawson to Morrell saw the former Blackpool striker drop a stunning pass behind Dennehy leaving Ryan Lowe through on goal. There was only one outcome and Ryan Lowe drew the keeper off his line and calmly slotted home to seal the points for Bury.
Goal: Hereford United 1 Bury 3 (Ryan Lowe 84)
Ryan Valentine collected his second yellow of the evening moments later and subsequent red card from Mr. East following a late challenge on Worrall but it was Andy Morrell who attempted to steal the thunder with moments of the game left.
Andy Morrell attempted an audacious back reverse flick with his ankle moments later that flew on target and true, but the spin of the ball took it just wide of the target.Morrell did have the ball in the back of the net on 91 minutes with a cheeky lob, but an assistant referee's flag high in the air ruled the effort out for offside.
Overall a stunning performance from the Shakers. They took charge, dominated and never let Hereford have anything from the game.
Final Score: Hereford United 1 Bury 3
