Shakers deny reports that they have agreed a fee with Shrewsbury Town for winger Marc Pugh.

The Rossendale-born youngster has now officially left the club, but Town must agree a compensation deal to avoid the matter going to a tribunal as the player is aged under 24.

Some sources suggested this morning that a fee in the region of 30,000, with an additional sell-on clause of 20 per cent, was fixed between the two clubs - but director of football Keith Alexander has stated that no such agreement has been made and that the Shakers rejected the initial proposal, made on Friday.

Shrewsbury have offered an amount similar to that which saw Glynn Hurst arrive at Gigg Lane in January, but Bury, who nurtured the midfielder after his release from Burnley into one of the division's most exciting talents, are holding out for more.

Pugh had only one full season at Gigg Lane, but made 40 appearances, scoring four goals, in his time at the club.

Bury offered him a contract extension in February, but the player turned down their offer, claiming at the time to "keep his options open". He signed officially for Gary Peters' side on May 29.

Shrewsbury are keen to avoid the matter going to court, especially as they face a similar situation with Luton Town over Wales under-21 midfielder David Edwards. This time, however, it is the Shropshire club who have rejected the Hatters' initial offer.

Elsewhere, the Shakers will run the rule over three new goalkeepers when pre-season training begins on Thursday.

Only youth team product Aaron Grundy remains as a recognised keeper in the squad, and Casper said he was keen to bring in an older head.

"Aaron is really coming on - and it would be nice to bring in someone with that experience to help him improve even further," he said.

"It's an important position and we want to get the right man for the job."

And in more transfer news, Chester have issued a hands-off warning to Bury over striker Simon Yeo.

Bury are keen to talk to the former Lincoln man, who still has one year left on his contract, but City chairman Stephen Vaughan claims no approach has yet been made.
