Keen to exorcise his ghosts
Chris Casper admits he will have to face his demons on returning to Wycombe this weekend.
The scene of his most disappointing result in nearly 100 games in charge, the 3-0 reverse at Adams Park last season still rankles the Bury boss.
Jermaine Easter's quickfire hat-trick saw Bury sink without trace in what was their fourth consecutive defeat.
But after an unbeaten start in the league this time around, the mood could not be different for the trip down to Buckinghamshire.
An opening day victory at MK Dons and a sublime second-half show at home to Grimsby have put the Shakers in confident mood.
And although Casper is reluctant to get carried away, he concedes that expectation levels have risen both in and out of the dressing room at Gigg Lane.
"It is nice to still be unbeaten a couple of games in, because the last time we went down to Wycombe we were on a bad run," Casper said.
"Confidence is a big thing in football - especially going into a tough game like this.
"I have only been to Wycombe once, but the game didn't go well, to say the least."
The defeat prompted Casper to drop six players for the club's next league game, an act which brought about a complete change in fortune.
"It was a poor performance, I'll admit that," Casper said. "From there, I had decisions to make and, happily, those decisions turned out well.
"My hand was forced a little bit. I brought in some younger players who I thought might not have been ready, but results immediately after that showed they were.
"We are stronger this season. We looked very fit on Saturday and finished the game strongly - and that was very pleasing."
Andy Bishop continued on the road back to full fitness this week, although he seems unlikely to figure from the start at Wycombe.
Goalkeeper Aaron Grundy underwent an operation on his broken ankle yesterday and is expected to be out for up to six more weeks.
Young midfielder Ben Leonard will also be missing until September because of a suspension still hanging over his head from a spell in the Sheffield Sunday League last season.
Shakers' David Buchanan, meanwhile, played in Northern Ireland Under-21s' 2-1 victory over Finland at Ballymena Showgrounds on Tuesday night.
