Missed Chances: Mathias
MK Dons, and former Shakers Assistant manager Ray Mathias cursed missed chances but wasn't too disappointed after MK Dons opening day defeat to League Two rivals Bury.
Ten-man Dons went down 2-1 after taking the lead through Keith Andrews only to see Andy Bishop bring Bury back from the dead
The game also saw Drissa Diallo sent off for an elbow on Bishop, whose resulting penalty proved the winner.
Mathias said: "I thought in the first half we started excellently, we took the game to Bury right from the off. We pushed on a little bit after the first 20 minutes and got a reward with Keith Andrews getting that superb goal.
"I thought we were sloppy early in the second half, as if we'd won the game. You have know divine right to win any game, we needed to crack on as we had in the first half. It gave them a little bit of the lift."
Diallo's red card came right in the thick of the action as Sean O'Hanlon was off getting treatment for a gash across his chin. Mathias thought the decision was a little heavy and said they had requested a review.
"I thought it was a little bit harsh from where I was standing. We've seen it since on the monitor and the Gaffer has spoken to the referee and asked him to look at the video again. Hopefully it will be rescinded as we feel that would be justified.
"Bury came here to try and grab a point and they've ended up with three which is frustrating for us. We passed them to death but that doesn't win you games, when we get a chance we have to stick it in the back of the net.
"The lads showed good attitude and character and there are only certain spells in the game we have spoken about that we weren't happy with. Hopefully next game they will come out fighting."
