Wycombe's Version
The Blues picked up their first win of the new campaign with 1-0 win over Bury at Adams Park, courtesy of a header from Sergio Torres.
The Blues were always the more likely side to win the game and with twenty minutes to go a wonderful cross from Stefan Oakes was headed home by the Argentine maestro.
Within the first minute the visitors had to head clear twice from crosses from Williams and then McGleish. Jim Provett then saved Bloomfield's tame effort but the midfielder was flagged offside.
On ten minutes Easter collected the ball in the area, turned and got his shot away which was blocked. Two minutes later Torres chipped the ball into the box but McGleish couldn't keep his volley down.
Bury won a corner which was cleared and the Blues broke away with Torres surging through the midfield with Easter running to his right and Bloomfield to his left. Sadly the Argentine picked the wrong ball and Bloomfield failed to find Easter with his subsequent pass.
A neat free-kick routine from the Shakers saw Woodthorpe play in Adams whose near post cross was headed out for a corner by the covering Holt. On the half-hour mark Russell Martin's free-kick from the right was flicked over the bar by McGleish.
On 37 minutes the visitors did have the ball in the net but Richie Baker's effort was disallowed for offside with the linesman's flag having been up for a while. A minute later Williams inswinging corner was punched clear by Provett at his near post.
The first ended with half chances for both sides. Williams deep cross was knocked back by Rusell Martin but Easter's shot lacked the power to trouble Provett. Glynn Hurst then fired his snapshot wide.
Bury made a change at half-time with Andy Bishop replacing James Dean up front. Five minutes into the second half the Blues survived the visitors appeals for a penalty when Bloomfield looked to have handled.
The Wanderers went close just before the hour mark when Russell Martin's right-wing cross was headed just over the bar by Torres, who had made a late run into the box.
Matt Bloomfield then put Bullock in down the right, the tricky winger beat his man but his low cross was blocked. It was the home sides turn to appeal for a spot kick when Williams cross appeared to strike a Bury defenders hand.
Blues' boss Paul Lambert made his first change on 66 minutes when Stefan Oakes replaced Matt Bloomfield. Two minutes later a lovely interchange between Torres and Easter saw the latter play a sublime reverse pass to put in McGleish whose shot was palmed over the bar by Provett.
Just four minutes after coming on Stefan Oakes vindicated his managers decision to throw him on by whipping in a wonderful cross from the left wing which was given the finish it deserved, Torres heading low into the corner past Provett.
John Sutton came on for Scott McGleish with 16 minutes left and within a minute he was fed in by Bullock but saw his shot blocked by Woodthorpe.
Woodthorpe was then booked for a foul on Williams and the resulting free-kick from Oakes wasn't held by Provett but referee East blew for a foul as Sutton tried to bundle the ball over the line.
Andrew Mangan replaced Nicky Adams for the visitors on 78 minutes and within three minutes the substitute looked to be in on goal, only for Shearer to save at the strikers feet.
The Wanderers glovesman was only called upon on a few occasions to deal with set-pieces that were flung into box by the visitors and he dealt comfortably with everything.
With eight minutes to go Jermaine Easter found the net after running onto Sutton's flick-on but his effort was chalked off for offside. Three minutes later Oakes came up with another excellent cross but Sutton could only direct his header straight at Provett.
Bury rarely threatened and when Andy Bishop's deep cross was knocked back by Baker, Parrish fired horribly high. Sam Stockley then replaced man-of-the-match Torres.
In the last of four minutes added on for injury-time, Bullock was put away down the right and he played in Easter who was up-ended on the edge of the box by Baker. The striker fired the resulting free-kick inches wide of Provett's right-hand post.
