Brentford FCBury 1 Brentford 0 - The Official Brentford Web Site
Brentford slipped to an opening day defeat at a sodden Gigg Lane after Bury hit-man Andy Bishop scored the only goal of the game late in the first half.

Brentford had started brightly and could have been ahead early on but the hosts battled back and scored when they had the initiative - two minutes before the break.

Bishop created it out of nothing, picking up a Michael Jones pass and creating a yard of space inside the penalty area before unleashing a vicious shot which flew past Ben Hamer and into the bottom corner.

And once the hosts got ahead they used their experience to limit Brentford to half chances and take all three points.

It could have been different if Marcus Bean had marked his Brentford debut with a goal inside the first 45 seconds but he was under pressure as he met a Glenn Poole cut back and Wayne Brown was able to save.
