The Morecambe View

Posted on: Tue 26 Aug 2008

Morecambe still await their first victory of the season after this defeat at Gigg Lane.

The Shrimps took the lead but Bury hit back with two goals in quick succession and although the Shrimps dominated the second half they could not find a way back into the game.

A frantic period began with the Shrimps taking an early lead through Rene Howe. A long ball into the Bury box should not have caused too many problems but keeper Wayne Brown and his defenders hesitated and Howe took full advantage to nip and stretch out his leg to steer the ball into the empty goal.

Unfortunately the Shrimps could not hold on to their lead as the Shakers pulled one back just six minutes later. Brian Barry-Murphy swung in a corner from the right which flew over Barry Roche and Paul Scott was allowed to run in at the far post to head home.

Ten minutes later Bury took the lead through an unfortunate David Artell own goal. Michael Carr lost possession in midfield and gave Elliott Bennett a free run down the right. With two players free in the box he crossed low and all Artell could do to prevent the ball reaching a Bury striker was stretch out a leg and divert the ball past the helpless Roche.
