I'm here to score goals

Posted on: Fri 12 Jun 2009

"I've finally got here; apparently this was the gaffer's third attempt at signing me.  It's good to know that another manager wants you and is talking about you, even though I was at another club.  It's good for me to finally be here and I've no doubt that the gaffer will be smiling about it now."

"People seem to know me for the goal at Wembley for Morecambe, obviously it was something special for myself and everyone at Morecambe, but I want to get away from that.  I want to be known as Danny Carlton the goalscorer in the football league as much as the goal at Wembley."

"I'm a hardworking player; I graft and put myself about.  I will create a few chances for whoever is playing up front with me and start getting the goals that people are saying I don't get enough off."

"I had a good couple of seasons at Morecambe and you could say that it didn't really work out at Carlisle for me, but I don't think that's anything I could have helped.  Neil McDonald was the manager that took me there but then he got the sack after the first game of the season, which didn't help me."

"John Ward came in and helped me at certain times but in the next minute he wasn't there for you.  It was a hard two years but hopefully now I can put that behind me and move onto the next two years here."

"I've played here once before, I think we won 1-0 in the carling cup.  I enjoyed playing here and I remember the pitch being good.  I know that the fans get on your back when you're playing against them so hopefully it will be a different story playing for them, hopefully they will get behind me."

"I don't know any of the lads, though I probably know their faces.  I know Andy Bishop a little and we've talked when I've played here and he will probably be one of the players that I get on with."

"We have four strikers here now and that's always good for the team, but I've come here to play football, I haven't come here to sit on the bench like I've done for the last two years.  I'm here to play and score goals, hopefully helping Bury to get into League One.  It's a shame that the club just missed out last season."

"It maybe four strikers, but its four good strikers.  Anyone in the league would be happy to have four strikers like this.  It will be good competition for next season, it can only make players better and make the team better."

"It's a new challenge for me, every time you move to a club it's a new challenge, but you take everything that comes with it and get on with it.  Now it's time to get your head down, get the pre-season out of the way - which is daunting for any player but come the first game of the season I'm sure everyone will be raring to go."

"I've had my holiday and talked to Alan Knill just before I went away and we kind of had an agreement between us.  I've been away now it's time to get into the gym and get myself running again so I can get myself fit for pre-season.  I hate the running in pre-season but it's got to be done, you have to get it done for yourself as much as the team."
