We will get stronger

Posted on: Sun 09 Aug 2009

"That was a baptism of fire and a disappointing result. You want to get off the best start possible, but we will take the positives out of the game and move on from there. The gaffer will tell you what the positives are. The gaffer is a very realistic man."

"There's a high level of expectation here amongst the lads and the club is expected to win games and it's a different story after that game but I'm sure with the team spirit that is here and the work ethic that is around the place."

"It's the first game, Brentford lost here last season and went up as champions. You can't read too much into it.We will get a lot stronger as the season goes on.I can only look at myself as an individual and when I come on from the bench I know that I've got to have an affect on games.I will work as hard as I can and hopefully give the gaffer something of a dilemma, but its going to be tough work with the lads that are here. There is a lot of quality in this squad and all I can do is work as hard as I can and make the gaffer make a decision."

"He's told me that if I don't make this a success then the only way for me is down.I'm very very grateful to him for giving me the opportunity. Its enough time for me to show him that I am capable of playing at this level and I think a fit and confident Simon Johnson can do that."

"I've played at this level quite a lot and your level of consistency has to be very good and that's been an issue with a lot of people, and it has been the fitness that has had an affect on me, so that's what I am working hard on at the moment.I do extra training when the lads have gone."

"The gaffer has also told me that I am capable of playing at a higher level and I've said form day one that I need somebody like him to give me a kick up the backside. He thinks that I've been in something of a comfort zone.Maybe I have without actually realising it.I've held my hands up and actually admitted that to him, now its upto me to knuckle down and work hard."

"I was tipped for big things at Leeds, unfortunately it didn't quite happen and I did feel quite hard done by at the time, but as you get older you realise that it's happened to quite a lot of players. To be honest, I didn't cope with it very well.I am where I am and I just have to deal with it now."

"I have to work hard to be even considered to get a start and with the quality of the lads here, I have to keep working hard."

"I'm looking forward to Tuesday night.I was born in West Bromwich and I'm a lifetime Baggies fan so it will be a decent game for me to be involved in so I am looking forward to it."
