I've seen some great football this season

Posted on: Sun 15 Nov 2009

"It was the perfect pitch to come back on and I will be a little stiff in the morning.  The main thing is that I am in one piece, but we will see in the morning and I know I will be stiff, but I was surprised to play the 90 minutes but at the same time, it's good to get the full 90 minutes under my belt."

"I was feeling it in the last 20 minutes; both Danny Nardiello and I were blowing, because he's only just come back from injury as well.  I think we did really well and I'm really pleased with the way we played, especially as a team going forward. It was a game for the spectators and we were talking on the pitch and it could have been 8-8.   I'm pleased to be back, pleased to have played.  With all the injuries sometimes you get thrown back in and that can be the best way, but it's good to get 90 minutes under my belt."

"I had a pre-season with Danny at Blackpool.  I was there trying to get myself a contract but that didn't work out.  I know what Danny is all about, he's a good footballer and you can play with good footballers, you know what they are going to do.It's one game down and it looked all right."

"For the goal, I just gambled and went into the middle of the goal and see what happens.  Danny has great quality and he put it right in front of me, so I'm having that.  I had a chance just before that and tried to cut back but slipped, but I'm just pleased to score my first of the season."

"This is my pre-season, I've trained three times and straight back into it.  You wouldn't do that in pre-season, but I'm just pleased to get through it.  At 3-2 the game was by no means dead, Notts County are a fantastic team.  You look at the size of their squad and the players that they have.  They should be doing very well in this division.  It doesn't surprise me that they score a lot of goals.  I think their problem is stopping them at the other end, if they can cure that, then they have a very good chance."

"That's the same for us as well, if we can stop other teams scoring against us, then we will do well.  We've got good players to score goals from.  We've become a little bit porous in the last couple of weeks; I don't know what it is.  We've not been able to train as much as we'd like to or work on the shape because of the lack of numbers and the weather, but we will be looking to correct that and the gaffer will be working on it."

"You build teams on not conceding a lot of goals, if you do that you can nick one and win the game, but we can always score goals.  We've got good players to create chances.  If we can stop them going in at the other end, then we have a good as chance as anybody.  A win would have taken us above them, at one point on Saturday we were fourth.  The quality is high and you don't need a lot of numbers to have a good team, and we have a good football team.  From sitting on the sidelines watching us, I've seen some great football this season; we've played some really good stuff.  We just need to continue that."

"We are going in the right direction, the two cup competitions were disappointing, but it's back to the league now.  I think everyone would have left Gigg Lane pleased with the way we played, pleased with the game that they've seen - hopefully they will come back again for the nest one."
