500 Not Out

Posted on: Thu 19 Aug 2010

"It is my 500th appearance on Saturday and its just another game, it's a good feeling to make the 500 but I will be taking it as just another game, I am happy I made the milestone it's a real achievement. Looking over my career the World Cup is my biggest achievement just being able to play football for a club is great, but playing at the highest level is fantastic every sprinter wants to run in the Olympics and for me it was a great chance to represent my country. Many say it's a great achievement to just be in the squad, but to actually be there and play it's unbelievable."

"The match day feeling is unreal when you wake up and you know your going to play a game its great, the fact that people are there to pay for you, people work hard all week spend their own money to watch you play I think if you don't have that passion for people to do that then it's not good. For me when I see the crowd it's unbelievable that my joy and if people want to watch me it's entertaining and I try and give it back to them."

"From the start of my career I've always wanted to play football and my feelings before a game are always the same, when I first started my debut at Macclesfield in 1996 I just enjoyed the game for it was and I had the belief just to go as far as I can and with the backing of my family I knew I could do anything."

"Sharing a profession with my family is good it helps, I'm the oldest of my siblings when I started they looked up to me they took me to games back in Nigeria and I'd take them to games in England, thankfully they followed on and really made a name for themselves in this country. My family, my Sister, Mum and Dad they have always been behind us and what ever I do it's for them, if I feel pain the feel the pain and if I feel joy then they will too, we have a strong family and it certainly helps."

As for Bury, this season has been a big change I was the first signing for the manager when he arrived here, I think there is only four of us that are remaining when I arrived the club where second from bottom in the table, we finished twelfth and the next two season we were in the playoff mix so it was great. I've always had that mentality of winning I just want to win, win win. I feel I haven't finished my journey for Bury yet we need to get promotion so I can achieve something here."

"There is no chance of me giving up yet, all the younger lads keep coming in but I keep telling them I am still here, I will keep on going and push them. Fair play to the younger lads they give me respect and I show them in return, they listen and we enjoy it together. I always say to them that when we get our first promotion success only then will they see how hungry you get to push on and go further."

"The main ambition for us as players is to get the three points, it was great to get them away at Oxford last weekend, seeing how we felt coming back on the coach it was a long journey but everybody was happy and it starts now we cant stop now we need to make it difficult for teams and it starts at Gigg Lane, we cant have teams turning up to Gigg Lane and thinking they can get the points. We've done it before and I don't see why not we cant do it with the new players here we are positive it's the third game, the second at home and we can definitely win it."

"500 appearances in both league and cup that's fine but I'm only 67 league games away from my 500th league appearance, there's nothing stopping me, I am definitely going to go for that because what's the point in stopping when you are nearly there, I don't give up that easily I will keep on fighting as long as I keep fit and do my job, I'll get my 500 league games."
