Bury 3 Rochdale 0

Posted on: Tue 27 Jul 2010

The first chance of the evening fell to Rochdale following a late challenge by Ben Futcher on Dale's Jack Redshaw, though the following free kick was blasted high over the Shakers bar with Cameron Belford comfortably watching the ball rise into the Cemetery end.

Efe Sodje continued his trend of 'doesn't do friendlies' on four minutes when he expertly dispossessed Redshaw on the edge of the box, but then barged into the chest of Morgan to give the visitors another free kick, that was again blazed out of play.

Moments later some clever work from Haworth almost had the former Blackburn winger in on goal, butas he went around the last defender, he saw the ball just knocked clear.A bad back pass from Byrne on 11 minutes almost had the Shakers in, a robust challenge from Schumacher, who flew in at full revs, won the ball in the middle of the Rochdale half. His quick ball to Bishop saw the Shakers striker shoot on goal from a full 25 yards, though his effort flew high, wide and handsome.

Bury got their passing game together on 15 minutes with a twelve pass move, Worrall's ball into the box rebounded out to Pete Sweeney just inside the Dale half, he took two touches and fired a ferocious ball on goal that keeper Edwards did well to palm away.

Bury took the lead on 18 minutes when another passing move saw the ball fall to Andy Haworth just inside the Rochdale box, he took one touch and fired the ball across Edwards into the opposite side of his goal to notch his first goal in a Bury shirt.

Goal:  Bury 1 Rochdale 0 (Haworth 18)

Another chance came Bury's way moments later when a long cross into the box saw David Worrall attempt the spectacular vy hitting it full on the volley from outside the box, although his effort flew true and on target, keeper Matt Edwards dived to collect the fast moving ball.

Another sweeping move came on 25 minutes when Sweeney knocked a 40 yard incisive pass down the flank to land on the sixpence in front of David Worrall. His ball into the biox from the touchline found the Chest of Andy Bishop, but he just couldn't push the ball past Flynn and the visitors smashed the ball clear.

Again on 27 minutes, more evidence of the Shakers passing game with some neat, crisp and fast passing saw Ryan Lowe step over the ball in the box, hoping for Andy Bishop behind him to connect with the loose ball, but Bishop had already made his move and the ball flew past him.

Bury should have doubled their lead on 31 minutes when a Ryan Lowe sublime ball forward split the Rochdale defence in two.David Worrall charged for the ball but could not sweep the ball beyond the Rochdale keeper and he saved comfortably.Moments later Worrall again tested the hands of Edwards after collecting a good ball wide from Sweeney, as the ball dropped off his chest he fired at goal from the corner of the box, but again, Edwards kept Dale in the game with another good stop.

Bury doubled their lead on 34 minutes.Good work from Andy Haworth in the corner saw him deliver the ball into the box; Bishop rose perfectly and diverted the ball into the keepers opposite corner

Goal:  Bury 2 Rochdale 0 (Bishop 34)

Bury could have made it three on 40 minutes when a good delivery from Picken into the Dale box found Schumacher diving to connect, though it was all in vain and the ball flew out for a goal kick.

A Rochdale free kick on 41 minutes, following a foul by Sweeney, saw Dean Morgan again fire the ball high and wide of the target.A Bury corner on 43 minutes floated into the box saw Futcher leap, but the ball flew away to the opposite side for a Dale throw.Bury quickly claimed the ball and pressed forward, though Sweeney's ball into the corner for Picken was over hit and went out of play.

Half Time:  Bury 2 Rochdale 0

Alan Knill made three like for like changes at half time.Carlton on for Lowe, Bennett for Haworth and Jones for Worrall, whilst Rochdale came out unchanged.

Rochdale should have got back into the game soon after the restart, a corner delivered into the box found the head of Redshaw and his bullet head brought a good save out of Belford.Dale's second corner was quickly cleared and a good passing move from Bishop and Carlton released Kyle Bennett, he took the ball to the bye line and whipped it across the face of goal.Dale's Jacob Rowe was first to the ball and smashed it clear.

Bury came straight back and Bishop and Carlton again passing the ball amongst themselves. The return ball to Bishop was intercepted by Schumacher, his shot deflected to Bishop and his shot deflected away for a corner.Moments later Carlton and Bishop again combined with Bishop firing a stunning shot on goal from 25 yards that Edwards did superbly well to palm away to safety.

Dave Flitcroft came off the bench for Rochdale on 51 minutes to a jovial round of applause and comments from the home crowd. With an hour of the game gone, it suddenly looked like a pre-season game with a raft of substitutions taking place though Bury continued to attempt their passing game, though it wasn't quite as fluent as the first half.

Peter Sweeney almost scored the goal of the game on 65 minutes from the half way line.A crisp pass to feet saw the former Grimsby man attempt a shot on goal from just inside the Dale half.Keeper Edwards showed some quick feet in back peddling but managed to hold as the ball looped towards him.

A Mike Jones corner on 74 minutes saw the ball flash across the Rochdale goal with the keeper stranded.  Both Carlton and Sodje stretched but neither could get that final touch to knock it over the line and Rochdale smashed the ball clear.

Bury won a cheap corner on 79 minutes when Mozika fired the ball at goal, a Dale defender though cleared it out for a Bury corner.  Jones' delivery found Lennell John-Lewis who softly headed the ball back across the face of goal, looking for a touch form any white shirt, but again the visitrs smashed the ball clear.

Finally, with six minutes of the game left, Bury made it 3-0 from a half pitch run from Mike Jones.  he collected the ball on the half way line and charged.  He took the ball into box, dummied the centre half and smashed the ball across the keeper to make it 3-0.

Goal:  Bury 3 Rochdale 0 (M Jones 84)

Young Kyle Bennett almost did the same minutes later by again charging form the half way line, though his effort flew high and wide of the target.
