Team News: Unbeaten in three is one major positive to take from the first month of the new npower season, but that unbeaten run shows only one win whilst the Shakers are left with a bitter feeling after the two draws. Performances have warranted better results, maybe even a full nine points from the three games.
At Barnet last weekend, the Shakers took a deserved lead but failed to play the game out. Some say the free kick should never have been awarded in the first place. It's really a pointless conversation, the fact is that Bury did not defend the free kick, Barnet put the ball away and stole two points off the Shakers team bus, just as it was warming up to return to the North West.
Barnet also played a backhanded compliment to Bury last weekend, but changing their shape and tactics to counter attack the Shakers passing game. To an extent, it worked for them, but the 274 travelling fans that made the trip to Underhill know that we had enough in the tanks to see the game out to take the points.
The manner in which the goal was scored felt like a knife in the heart for the Shakers management team. Alan Knill called it a lack of bravery at the vital moment. The wall broke, somebody turned their back on the ball and it was in the back of the net - take the shot in the face or worse, and you win the game, it just takes that bit of bravery.
Skipper Steven Schumacher shown his disappointment and frustration after the game with his interview on Shakers Player. 'It's an old cliché, but we have to win our home games' he said following the game. Starting on Saturday of course. Three points would get the season going again, it would bring that winning mentality to Gigg Lane, it would put that positive edge on the performances - which on reflection, have warranted a bigger points haul.
Thankfully Alan Knill has no injury problems to contend with. His one major problem seems to be which players to leave out. Andy Bishop is fresh and raring to go, the dead leg has cleared up and he is keen to get back amongst the goals. Ryan Lowe now has a two goal start on Bishop, and its something he is keen to restore order to.
Ben Futcher came through a reserve friendly game at Retford United on Wednesday evening with no problems. His only problem now is to dislodge former Gillingham defender Efe Sodje or the impressive Tom Lees from his starting position. Futch may find himself on the bench for a good few weeks to come yet.
Gillingham come to Gigg Lane after suffering relegation from League One last season, their 12 month stay in the league above looks on paper to have been something of a disaster. Their last win away from Priestfield was as a League Two club the season before last. A 1-0 win at Rochdale in the final game of their promotion season.
Injuries though seem to be Andy Hessenthalers major problem. The Gills left Kent this morning for an overnight stay in the North West - plus a training session at Bolton Wanderers before heading to Gigg Lane on Saturday, where hopefully lessons have been learnt by Bury - kill the game off and take three points, its a simple task - on paper, a little more difficult on grass....

A word on - Gillingham: Gillingham are again facing selection problems ahead of their trip to Bury on Saturday. Injuries have plagued the Gills' first month back in League 2 and they do not appear to be getting much better after the midweek injuries to Andy Barcham and Cody McDonald.
McDonald, who only returned last week after a foot injury, twisted an ankle in the defeat at Southend and Barcham also took a knock. Both are doubtful this weekend. Alan Julian is likely to remain on the bench as he continues to rest his hand, which he broke in pre-season.
Garry Richards (ankle), Curtis Weston (thigh) and Dennis Oli (hamstring) are all close to returning but may have to wait another week before doing so. Striker Adebayo Akinfenwa has been having injections to cure a niggling shoulder problem but should play.
Belgian midfielder Stanley Aborah now has his international clearance and begins a new one-month contract this weekend but is still fighting off a thigh injury. Simon King (ankle) and Dean Rance (foot) remain on the long-term injury list. The likes of Mark McCammon and Josh Gowling returned to the side on Tuesday at Southend and will be fighting for a first-team shirt at Bury

Tipsters Challenge: Beat the tipster on Saturday's game - five bets at £4.00 per bet. Let us know if you beat Tipster.
Click here to go straight to our new Shakers Coral site
Obviously so far this season Tipster's top tips for each game have been an abject failure, but he's not giving up, he's more optimistic than an optimistic thing.
Can you beat the tipster and make a small fortune, we've given our tipping expert £20, on the condition that he makes five bets of £4.00 each and only on Bury games. Tipsters top tips for Saturdays game with Gillingham are as follows:-
Bet 1: Tipster is about as optimistic as the Stig is about keeping his job for Saturdays game and has put his first £4.00 on a Bury win. Coral are currently offering 5/4 on the Shakers taking maximum points on Saturday, making a possible profit of just £5.00
Bet 2: A correct score forecast, always a difficult choice but Tipster has gone for a 3-0 Bury win. Coral are offering odds of 20/1, should it happen, then a profit of £80.00 is heading Tipsters way
Bet 3: Instead of first goalscorer, Tipster is trying one of the many markets available on the Coral site. Efe Sodje to score with a header is down at 25/1 - so he's put his third £4.00 on Sodje to do just that, making a possible profit of £100.00
Bet 4: Bury to win by 3 or more goals - currently available at 11/1, making a possible profit of £44.00
Bet 5: Gillingham to be in the lead at half time, but Bury come from behind in the second half to win the game and take the points - currently available at 22/1 over at Coral, making a possible profit of £88.00
Can you beat the tipster, let us know if you do....
