Scotty joined Bury before the 2004/05 season after successfully coming through a pre-season trial period.  The trial was arranged by his former Huddersfield team mate Dwayne Mattis, who was by then a Bury player.  Then manager Graham Barrow liked what he saw and offered Paul a short term deal, though that was soon extended into a longer term contract. 

Now one of the clubs longest serving players alongside Brian Barry-Murphy, former manager Chris Casper once described Scotty as 'a player that would run through a brick wall for you.'  Ever dependable in whatever position he plays, though Alan Knill has played Paul at right back since taking over from Casper.  Scotty also has en eye for goal.

Paul made his league debut for Huddersfield Town in August 2002 with a 1-0 win at Peterborough United and went onto make a total of 36 appearances for the Terriers, and scoring twice - one of which was against Bury at Gigg Lane in 2003.  Released from the Terriers at the end of the 2003/04 season, Huddersfield's loss was Bury's gain.  Scotty has racked up a total of 207 appearances and 16 goals for the Shakers during his five years at Gigg Lane.

Paul was also handed the captains armband following the departure of Chris Casper for the remainder of the 07/08 season and has hung onto it since.  Paul's name is one of the first names to go onto the team sheet on a weekly basis.  A twice on the row player of the season Scotty is keen to progress this season after the Shakers' failed play off campaign last season.
