A product of the youth system at Tranmere Rovers. Birkenhead born Jones came through the system at Prenton Park and was handed a full debut in the final game of the 2005/06 season, though Rovers lost the game 2-0.
His next appearance came the following season in the FA Cup against Woking. His first goal came in January 2007, though by now he had gone to Shrewsbury on loan and he scored at Lincoln's Sincil Bank in a 1-1 draw.
Released at the end of last season, Michael has successfully completed a pre-season trial period at Gigg Lane. Skillful, trickey and with bags of pace, Shakers supporters are looking forward to see him develop under the tutorship of gaffer Alan Knill.
