A product of the youth system at Tranmere Rovers. Birkenhead born Jones came through the system at Prenton Park and was handed a full debut in the final game of the 2005/06 season, though Rovers lost the game 2-0.
His next appearance came the following season in the FA Cup against Woking. His first goal came in January 2007, though by now he had gone to Shrewsbury on loan and he scored at Lincoln's Sincil Bank in a 1-1 draw. Released at the end of the 2007/08 season, Michael successfully completed a pre-season trial period at Gigg Lane.
Skilful, trickery and with bags of pace, 'Jonah' impressed many supporters during an excellent season for the Shakers. Ever present throughout his first season and with four goals to his name, Mike signed a long term contract extension during the last campaign and should once again improve whilst continuing to impress.
