Birkenhead born Mike Jones is a product of the youth system at Tranmere Rovers that was handed a full debut in the final game of the 2005/06 season against Doncaster Rovers, though Rovers lost the game 2-0.His next appearance came the following season in the FA Cup against Woking, whilst his first goal came in January 2007, though by now he had gone to Shrewsbury on loan and he scored at Lincoln's Sincil Bank in a 1-1 draw.Released at the end of 2007/08 season, Michael successfully completed a pre-season trial period at Gigg Lane and impressed enough to be rewarded with a twelve month contract.Midway through the 2008/09 season though, and only six months into his new deal - he was offered a further extension to the deal that will see him stay at Gigg Lane until the end of the 2011/12 season.
