Goals from Burnley's Chris Lynch and a brace from Jay Rodriguez were enough to win the opening central league game at Accrington Stanley's ground earlier this evening, though the Clarets keeper Diego Penny shone through with a string of first class saves early in the game.
The home side included several first teamers including gaffer Owen Coyle. Early pressure from the clarets saw the first 15 minutes as a virtual onslaught on the Shakers defence until Richie Baker slammed the ball inches wide of Penny's right hand post after 16 minutes.
Moments later young Chris Mason had a goal bound drive clawed away from goal by the Clarets keeper before being called back into action ten minutes later to deny Domaine Rouse's powerful header.
Burnley took the lead soon after when Adam Kay delivered a low corner and as Bury tried to clear their lines at the near post, the ball cannoned off Lynch into the bottom corner.
Bury attempted to hit back with a superb long range drive from Danny Racchi, but Diego Penny again denied the Shakers by tipping the ball over the bar.With rain teeming down, the Shakers continued with their chances.Poor control from Rouse allowed Penny to grab the ball when the youngster seemed certain to score.
Richie Baker again stung the Peruvians palms with another fine shot on goal that Penny somehow managed to tip around the post to keep his side's lead at the break.
The Clarets doubled their lead inside five minutes of the second half when Rodriguez gave no chance from eight yards with a bullet header.
Diego Penny was called into action again soon after when he positioned himself perfectly to deny RIchie Baker's fiercely struck free kick from the edge of the box.
Rodriguez wrapped the point's up soon after when he connected with a good ball from manager OWen Coyle to slot it past Cameron Belford, though he was to be denied a hat trick in the dying minutes with the lineman flagging the striker offside
