Perton born Neil Cutler joined the Shakers soon after manager Alan Knill as goalkeeping coach.  A former keeper himself that was forced to retire from the game due to a back injury in September 2007.  His career began as a trainee at Tamworth before being picked up by West Bromwich Albion.  He left the Baggies without playing for their first team and joined Crewe Alexandra, but again, he failed to make the first team whilst at Gresty Road.  Two loan spells to Chester City as well as Cheltenham Town soon followed before he joined Chester on a full time basis.  Despite struggling to nail down a first team place at the Deva Stadium, 'Cuts' found himself a premiership player when Aston Villa signed him in October 1999, but he was to make only one appearance for the Villains.  Another loan spell followed, this time at Oxford United before he joined Stoke City in July 2001 and helped them win promotion to the Championship in 2002.

In March 2003 he joined Swansea City as cover for injured keeper Roger Freestone, which also included the infamous game with Hull City, a result that ultimately saw the Swans retain their league status.  Stockport County in the summer of 2004 was his next stop before being released to join up with Alan Knill at Rotherham United.  The Millers released him at the end of the 3006/07 season but a loan standing back injury eventually made the decision for him and he announced his retirement from the game.   'Cuts' is also on the management committee of the PFA.
