Chris Wilder joined the Shakers during the summer months after leaving his position as manager of Halifax Town. A season of turmoil for the Shaymen had brought nothing but financial problems which eventually led to administration, a failed takeover and eventual demotion from the Blue Square Premiership to Unibond League One (North).
Chris was targeted by Alan Knill last season as a possible assistant manager at Gigg Lane and the Shakers gaffer went about the task of bringing him to Bury. His playing career started at Southampton in 1985. Though he never actually played for the Saints, he joined Sheffield United in 1986 where he spent the next six seasons. Loan moves to Walsall, Charlton (twice) and Leyton orient followed before he joined another Yorkshire side Rotherham United in July 1992.
After four years at Millmoor, a fee of £130,000 took him to Notts County for a season, before another fee of £150,000 took him to Bradford City for another season. Chris re-signed for Sheffield United in March 1998 before two more loan moves to Northamopton Town and Lincoln City followed. A short spell at Brighton & Hove Albion eventually led to a move to Halifax Town in October 1999.
Chris was appointed manager in July 2002 at the Shay replacing caretaker Neil Redfearn.Relegation from the football league soon followed, though the Shaymen did flirt with the play offs, though they lost the final against Hereford United.
With financial problems looming, their season fell apart and though the club escaped relegation, their off the field problems were so severe that they club folded in May 2008, leaving Chris with a difficult position of leaving Halifax.Although the club has been allowed into the Unibond League One North, it won't be under the guise of Halifax Town.
