Bury youth side fielded was deemed somewhat inexperienced as Tommy Toth and Levi Clarke started their first ever appearance for the youth team. A promising start to the game saw Liam Boswell delve into the Accrington penalty box, only to be brought down by the on coming goalkeeper which led to the referee quickly pointing to the spot. However moments later the linesman stopped procedures and deemed the foul not worthy of a Shakers penalty.
Five minutes into the game and Bury won their first corner, but it was the home side that was first to kick start their new season, from the resulting corner Accrington Stanley broke away and responded in recording their first corner, with a chance to reply and the home side quickly delivered. The corner lead to the first and only goal of the game as an Accrington defender rose unchallenged and headed the ball home.
This provoked a positive reaction from Richie Barker's young side and on the 12th minute Luke McCarthy beat a defender on the right hand side and whipped in a cross that fell to Liam Boswell at the back post, but after slight hesitation the chance of an equalising goal faded.
The remainder of the first half saw Bury play some positive attacking football leading to an excellent cross from Danny Hudson that was met by Wade Joyce, but with the goalkeeper beaten the ball unfortunately hit the outside of the post.
Just as the first, the second half started equally, in a quick passing move Wade Joyce received a through ball just inside the box but his shot was deflected wide for a corner.
After an hour of play gone the game took a slight turn as the match produced its first of 3 sending offs when an Accrington player kicked out after a strong tackle by Kyle McGonigle.
With just ten minutes to play the Shakers task of an equaliser was made all the harder when Adam Dawson received his second yellow card for dissent.
The latter part of the second half saw Bury put more pressure on the Accrington defence and perhaps the best chance of the game fell to Danny Hudson in the 89th minute. An excellent pass by Substitute McLaughlin saw Hudson with only the Goalkeeper to beat but unfortunately he fired in to the side netting.
The last action of the game saw a lunging tackle by Kyle McGonigle punished with a straight red card in injury time.
