Carlisle United 0 Bury 0

Posted on: Thu 26 Aug 2010

A game that truly does not fit the scoreline is how Richie Barker summed up with the young Shakers putting in an excellent performance, some excellent possession play football coupled with positive counter attacking and determined defending.

Bury started the game in determined mood after losing their first game of the season 1-0 at Accrington and it soon became apparent that many lessons had been learnt in a short space of time as the attitude from the Bury youngsters was first class. The first real attack of the game came on 15 minutes when a stunning through ball from midfield fell to Luke McCarthy, his cross into the Carlisle box though was well defended by the home side and the chance lost.

Seven minutes later and Liam Boswell produced some excellent close ball control before slipping the ball into the Luke McCarthy who managed to craft some good space, but his final shot on goal took a deflection and drifted wide.Danny Hudson collected the ball some 25 yards from goal on 35 minutes and his quick turn and shot almost deceived a stubborn Carlisle keeper, but was well parried and saved.

Carlisle's one and only chance of the first half came five minutes before the break when a strong run form midfield saw a tame shot again drift wide of the target.

Bury had a penalty shout on 50 minutes when debutant Levi Clarke pulled off a clever interception before feeding the ball to Boswell. His charging run down the left took him into the Carlisle area and under a heavy challenge, continued his effort and shot wide of the mark.Going down in the box was an option, but the youngster showed good determination in getting a shot away whilst under some stern pressure.

The home keeper was called into action again on 52 minutes by tipping a McCarthy drive around the post.He was to prove his skills again on 85 minutes when Adam Dawson drove a 20 yard effort on target, but this time the keeper tipped the ball onto the post before his defence cleared.
