The following players all started their career's as juniors/youth team players with Bury FC

Profile: David Nugent was a member of the Liverpool Youth Academy, but left in 2001 aged only 15 without being offered pro terms. It was only once he joined Bury, and playing position, that he became successful. He joined Bury's centre of excellence and quickly moved through the Youth Team and onto the first team.

David made his debut for Bury as a substitute in March 2002 against Port Vale at just 16 years old. He initially struggled to live up to his early potential but an explosive start to the 2004/05 League Two season saw several larger clubs take an interest.

He joined Preston North End in January 2005 for a fee of £100,000, with several add ons involved in the deal, and proved himself more than worthy in the Championship.

He scored ten goals in 32 championship appearances in the 05/06 season as Preston finished fourth, losing to Leeds United in the play off semi final, thus failing to gain promotion to the Premier League.

Despite transfer speculation, Nugent spent the following season at Deepdale scoring 15 goals in 43 appearances, and won himself an England cap. Preston finished seventh and he left Lancashire in the summer of 2007.

David was unveiled by Portsmouth after a £6m transfer. His career at Pompey wasn't that auspicious and even considered a failure. David also appeared in the 2008 FA Cup Final for Portsmouth and now holds not only a full England cap, but an FA Cup winners medal.

Portsmouth's relegation to the Championship will see him back as a football league player, but we don't expect him to stay there for long with rumours of Blackburn showing an interest in his services
