The 25-year-old signed a 2-year deal with the Shakers after being released by Blackpool at the end of the 2014-15 season. Jacob began his career as a trainee at Sheffield United, before joining Premier League club Chelsea for £1 million in the summer of 2007. He was a member of the Chelsea team that reached the final of the FA Youth Cup under manager Paul Clement in 2008. He left Stamford Bridge in 2012, signing for Barnsley, having spent 4-months on loan with the Tykes. He enjoyed the best spell of his career at Barnsley but he left Oakwell following the club's relegation to League One. A frustrating first season at Gigg Lane saw his appearances restricted following a series of niggling injuries.
