Midfielder Shane Byrne has signed a two year deal with the Shakers
Bury FC are delighted to announce that former Leicester City youth player Shane Byrne has returned to Gigg Lane, only this time – on a permanent basis. Shane put pen to paper on a two year contract at Bury this morning following his release from Leicester City.
'Bury to this statement going live earlier today, Bury FC would like to clarify that Shane was not a free agent, but the club reached an amicable agreement over the services of Shane Byrne with Leicester City'
Shane originally signed for Bury on 31 August 2011 on a month’s loan from Leicester City and quickly became a fans favourite. In total, he spent three months with the Shakers before heading back to Leicester.
Shane signed his first pro contract over the summer of 2011 and is a former member of the Republic of Ireland U19 squad. When he first came to Bury, Shane actually pulled out of an international squad to meet up with his new team mates in time for a tough game at Bramhall Lane against Sheffield United, and made his debut the next day in Sheffield.
Described as an energetic ball playing midfielder who is very good in possession and strong in the tackle. Shane made a total of 15 appearances for the Shakers before injury forced his return to Leicester. Squad number 4 has been assigned to Shane and he goes straight into the squad for Saturday’s game at Coventry City.
Speaking soon after signing the deal, Shane said: “I’m delighted, it’s great to be back and I can’t wait to get going and get into the team, hopefully on Saturday.”
Shane has had a full injury free pre-season and arrives at Gigg Lane fully fit and raring to go
We’ve got an interview with Shane coming up on Shakers Player soon…
