Alan Moore’s youth team got their new season off to a perfect start in Saturdays opening game of the season at Burnley - with a stunning fightback after being 2-0 down.
The home side started the game much brighter than the shakers and took the lead inside the first 15 minutes. The goal came after some pressure led to a free kick, from that delivery it was disappointing to see the Burnley striker score with a free header.
The Clarets doubled their lead soon after following a defensive mistake, allowing the home side to pounce quickly and slot the ball home. The Shakers started their fightback soon after though and got back into the game following a stunning lob from Luke Beastall from 20 yards out.
The goal lifted Bury and they began to play some fantastic football, stroking the ball around the pitch. This passing football produced many good chances for the Shakers youth to get that equalising goal. Despite the pressure though, it remained 2-1 to Burnley’s benefit at the break.
The shakers came out for the second half with lots of
confidence and this showed with the equalising goal in the 47th minute by Levi Clarke with a superb header from a well taken corner by Joe Thornton. The shakers were dominating the game and missed a plethora of good chances to take the lead.
Eventually though, the pressure told and the winning goal came in the 75th minute. Good work from Jake Cliffe , who managed to close the Burnley keeper down. The challenge on the keeper paid off with Jake managing to get a good block on his clearance, allowing him to stroke the ball home into the empty net. Bury showed no signs of holding on and continued to dominate proceedings to hold out for a good solid start to their season.
