Kevin Blackwell confirms a raft of injuries are hampering his plans to progress
Andy Bishop is out of action for at least a month after a re-occurrence of a foot injury at Southend on Tuesday night.
Speaking to the press on Thursday, the gaffer confirmed the news by saying:-
“Andy has an injury on the arch of his foot. In a previous game somebody has stood on his foot and instead of his arch being inverted, its flattened his foot and ripped all the muscle tissue under his foot. It’s a very rare injury and somehow he has done it.
To be fair to Andy, I asked him to play through the two games. He had injections before both games. The lad has put himself on the line for the club. Unfortunately Tuesday night hasn’t helped him, the pitch was virtually concrete and every time he put his foot down, he had pain shooting up through his leg.
Although he had a pain killer, we knew we had to get him off. Unfortunately now we are going to lose him and it could be anything up to a month.
Adam Lockwood, Phil Picken and Shane Byrne are also currently injured. Lockwood is seeing a specialist this week and we will know more after his visit. Zac Thompson has a hamstring problem, Ethan Ebanks-Landell received a kick to the shin so both of them are touch and go for the weekend. We will give them as long as possible before we make a decision on them.”
