Shakers held to a draw at Preston
Preston North End 0 Bury 0
The Shakers held out for a goalless draw at Deepdale, despite a strong Preston display.
The home side continued to press forward in the first half, with Bury coming out for the second period with some extra energy and some added shots to boot.
But the absence of a clinical finish saw Bury unable to get onto the scoresheet, seeing them claim a point instead.
After an opening ten minutes of sustained pressure from the home side, Bury’s first attack of note arrived – David Worrall crossed short to Tom Soares at the near post, but he poked the ball wide.
A late challenge from Will Hayhurst on Zac Thompson saw Bury awarded a free kick ten yards outside the box on 17 minutes. Steven Schumacher stepped up in an attempt to replicate his stunning goal against Preston eight days previously, but he sent the ball over the bar.
Thompson hit the side netting on 23 minutes with arguably Bury’s best chance of the first half. David Healy threaded the ball through to him on the right of the box, but he couldn’t make the move count.
Deepdale erupted with screams for a penalty on 31 minutes as Chris Beardsley went down in the box under pressure from Efe Sodje, but the referee was having none of it.
Bury yellow card on 33 minutes – Efe Sodje
Preston yellow card on 38 minutes – Andy Proctor
Two minutes of time were added on as the home side continued to press forward – Beardsley and Jack King both mishit in front of goal as Bury’s defence was tested twice more.

Soon after the restart, the home side saw a great chance to break the deadlock go begging, as a cross was whipped in from the left before skimming in front of goal, with nobody to finish it off.
Preston substitution on 55 minutes – Jeffrey Monokana on for Andy Proctor
Preston substitution on 59 minutes – Lee Trundle on for Will Hayhurst
Bury substitution on 65 minutes – Lenell John-Lewis on for David Healy
A neat cross from Worrall on the right looked dangerous for Bury on 67 minutes, but the Preston defence leaped into action, cutting out the chance.
Lee Trundle tried his luck from distance on 69 minutes, but his curled effort from the right of the box was saved by Trevor Carson with ease at his near post.
Preston substitution on 71 minutes – David Amoo on for Chris Beardsley
A snapshot on the volley from Thompson tested Thorsten Stuckmann in the Preston net on 73 minutes, forcing the keeper to parry the ball away from danger.
Bury substitution on 76 minutes – Craig Jones on for Tom Soares
Preston yellow card on 77 minutes – John Mousinho
A well-worked move forward for the Shakers on 85 minutes was one of their best of the match, but the final touch was lacking once more.
Preston yellow card on 87 minutes – John Welsh
Three minutes of added time were played out as Bury’s defence kept Preston at bay, leaving the game to finish honours even.
