Bury failed to recover from a nightmare start and despite a much-improved second half, the Shakers went home from Brunton Park empty handed.
The home side were 2-0 up after a frantic opening 10 minutes – Bury conceded a penalty after just 60 seconds and Matty Robson made it two with a well-taken effort from inside the box, despite two clear-cut chances for the Shakers.
Steven Schumacher gave Bury a lifeline on 52 minutes, but despite a more confident second half display and a hatful of chances, the Shakers couldn’t claim a deserved equaliser.
GOAL! The home side had the ideal start as Bradley Potts was brought down in the box by Efe Sodje, giving Carlisle a penalty - Lee Miller stepped up to convert from the spot.

Bury answered back on 6 minutes, with a great chance to bring the game level – a neat cross from Gregg Wylde on the left met the head of Tom Hopper in front of goal, but his effort was saved onto the bar by Mark Gillespie.
They tried again moments later, with Matt Doherty crossing low to Hopper at the far post, but a mishit saw the ball sail harmlessly wide.
GOAL! Bury were made to pay for their missed chances seconds later, as Matty Robson extended Carlisle’s lead on 10 minutes with a shot from the middle of the box into the bottom corner.

After a frantic opening ten minutes, the game slowed down, with few chances for either side.
Potts tried his luck from distance but put the ball harmlessly wide, while Troy Hewitt got on the end of a loose ball at the far post but saw his effort deflected into the hands of Gillespie.

Steven Schumacher tried his luck from distance on 48 minutes, only to see his effort deflected away for a corner. Schumacher took the corner, which appeared to be cleared off at the line at the far post.
GOAL! Schumacher gave Bury a lifeline on 52 minutes with a headed goal at the near post – a good cross from substitute Carole gave the Bury skipper the space to connect with a bullet header.

Sodje was inches from bringing the game level on 56 minutes as he got onto the end of a loose ball at the far post, but his looping header bounced just wide.
Carole carved open the Carlisle defence on 58 minutes, beating two men before teeing up a shot, which Gillespie pushed into the path of Schumacher. The Bury captain got his laces behind the ball, only for the Carlisle keeper to pull off another save.
David Worrall left Robson for dead on 62 minutes, before blasting the ball from the right of the box and forcing Gillespie to make a reaction save.

Carole had Gillespie beat from the right of the box on 66 minutes, but his low shot dinked against the far post.

Schumacher tried his luck from a long range free kick on 78 minutes, only to see the ball deflected away for a corner.
A golden chance to bring the game level slipped through Bury’s fingers on 83 minutes – a curling corner from Schumacher went begging as it swept in front of goal.

Potts had the definitive chance to put the game beyond doubt on 88 minutes as the home side tried to catch Bury on the break. Symington crossed for Potts, who was one on one with Trevor Carson in front of goal, but he somehow put the ball over the bar.
Hopper seemed certain to claim a point for Bury as normal time came to a close – a clever cross from Worrall met him at the near post, but his dinked effort was saved by Gillespie.
