Bury boss Richie Barker has stressed that any further signings this summer will be made with one eye on the future.

Barker feels the Shakers are ready for the new League One campaign after bolstering his squad with the signing of Trevor Carson, Adam Lockwood, Lateef Elford-Alliyu and Marcus Marshall.

And while he hasn’t ruled out any more new arrivals at Gigg Lane before Bury’s league opener on August 18, Barker doesn’t expect to sign anyone who will factor in his short-term plans.

Developing young players and selling them on plays a crucial part in keeping the club afloat and Barker hopes to uncover some unpolished gems as pre-season continues.

"Position wise, we are ok with players at the moment," he said. "We are pretty much where we want to be in terms of two players for each position.

"We are not really on the look-out for a specific position, what we are looking at now is players that have come on the market, predominantly younger players that have become available. If I am honest, financially they are probably about all we can afford at the moment and if they can move the club forward by being a younger player that we can invest time in.
