Remembrance at Gigg Lane

7 November 2012

Shakers set to remember those that have fallen

As is now usual at Gigg Lane during Remembrance weekend, our enhanced minutes silence will once again take place before this weekend’s game with Portsmouth.

Standard bearers from the Royal British Legion and representatives from all three armed forces will march onto the pitch before kick-off.  The Standards will be escorted by Buglers from the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers (Lancashire).

We will also have around 20 serving members of 1RRF (1st Battalion Royal Regiment of Fusiliers) in attendance at the game plus a machine gun display available in the car park.  Fusilier Cadets will be in and around the ground with Poppy’s available everywhere.

Both teams will come out as normal, though they may be one or two minutes earlier than normal.  The match ball will hopefully be delivered by a representative of the Royal Navy along with our friends from the Chelsea Pensioners.  Once the coin toss has been completed, the Standard Bearers and buglers will march into the centre circle.  The Buglers will then play the last post.  The final note of the last post will signal the start of the minute’s silence.  The buglers will then play the reveille signalling the carry on before the Standard bearers march off allowing the game to commence.

Please show our veterans and serving soldiers the respect they deserve during the game on Saturday

Video from the same ceremony from the 2010/11 season can be found here – whilst the video from last season’s ceremony can be found here

We will have the video from Saturday’s ceremony live on our website and Facebook at some point on Saturday evening
