Shakers take all three points in first win on the road
Bury claimed their first away league win of the season in a hotly-contested East Lancashire derby.
The Shakers were gifted a first half lead courtesy of an own goal from James Tarkowski before extending their lead with five minutes of the game left, thanks to a converted penalty from Steven Schumacher.
The home side struck back in the five minutes of added time, with a floating header from Robbie Simpson, but it wasn’t enough for Oldham to take anything from the game.
Matt Derbyshire looked to be posing a threat on the edge of the box after 3 minutes, before Joe Skarz dragged him back, conceding a free kick. Jose Baxter got his laces behind the free kick, but blasted the ball into the Bury wall.

Bury’s seemed inches away from taking the lead on 8 minutes – a whipped cross from David Worrall on the left found the head of Tom Hopper in front of goal, but his effort hit the post.

The first half became a contest of possession statistics as both sides fought to keep the ball and pass it around.
GOAL! Bury took the lead on 34 minutes thanks to an own goal from James Tarkowski. Cliff Byrne was well placed in front of goal to try and clear a whipped cross from Worrall on the right, but he headed the ball into the path of Tarkowsk, rebounding the ball past Dean Bouzanis.

Matt Doherty tried something special from distance on 38 minutes, after the ball was cleared from the Oldham box, but Bouzanis in the Oldham net had it covered at the far post.
Robbie Simpson made the most of some panicked Bury defending on 42 minutes, teeing up a shot from the edge of the box, but Trevor Carson got down well to block.

A Bury corner was taken short on 51 minutes, before being crossed to Mark Hughes at the far post, but Bouzanis was in the right place to make the save.

A dangerous corner from the right on 62 minutes presented Jonathan Grounds with a free header at the far post, but he somehow headed wide.
Baxter tried a volley from the edge of the box on 69 minutes, but Carson had it covered at the near post.

Oldham continued to press forward looking for an equaliser, but the referee made it difficult for both sides to keep the ball moving.

GOAL! Worrall was brought down in the box on 85 minutes, giving the Shakers a penalty kick. Schumacher stepped up to take spot kick and blasted the ball into the top corner of the net.

Five minutes of extra time were played out as Oldham continued to look for an equaliser, and it came after two minutes.
GOAL! Robbie Simpson climbed the highest to make contact with a looping cross and floated a header over the head of Carson to claim what turned out to be a consolation.
