Shakers play the football whilst Magpies score the goals
An afternoon of wasted chances saw Bury record their second defeat of the season at home to Notts County.
The visitors took the lead within the second minute of play with Lee Hughes making the most of a swirling free kick from Alan Judge on the left, burying at the near post.
As Bury repeatedly tried to bring the game level but lacked that finishing touch, their hearts were broken at the death as Judge claimed a goal of his own, firing from the left of the box past Trevor Carson.
The Shakers gifted the perfect start to the visitors on two minutes, with Lee Hughes making the most of a curling free kick into the box from Alan Judge to finish at the near post.

David Worrall made a nuisance of himself on the left flank moments after the restart, forcing Julian Kelly to bring him down and receive a booking for his troubles.

Mark Cullen slotted the ball through into the box for the on-running Joe Skarz on 15 minutes, but pressure from the Notts County back line saw Skarz’s shot go wide.
A curling cross from Phil Picken on the right found the head of Cullen at the far post on 18 minutes, but the Hull loanee’s effort didn’t challenge Bartosz Bialkowski in the County net, who gathered it with ease.
Bury’s best chance to draw level came on 20 minutes as Lenell John-Lewis fired in a low cross from the right, looking for Cullen in front of goal as Bialkowski paced out of his net. Cullen’s leg was outstretched, but just couldn’t make contact.
John-Lewis tried his luck from well outside the box moments later – he got his laces behind the ball well and Bialkowski was outstretched towards the left post, but the ball bounced just wide.
The home side had enjoyed most of the first half following conceding early and were not sitting back. John-Lewis continued to press forward and got his left foot round the ball on 34 minutes on the edge of the box, only to fire just wide.
A pinpoint pass from Steven Schumacher on 43 minutes found John-Lewis on the edge of the box. The Bury striker tried to walk the ball through a mass of orange and black shirts and was stopped as he got close enough to shoot.
With two minutes of added time to play, the Shakers weren’t giving up on their quest for an equaliser, and it almost arrived with moments left to play. A looping cross from Skarz on the left found the head of Worrall at the far post and it took an outstretched arm from Bialkowski to keep it out of the net.

Straight from the restart, Bury still had the hunger they finished the first half with. Schumacher tried something special from well outside the box – his shot looped towards Bialkowski in the County net and, after spilling the ball in front of him, he had it under control.

A low drive from Schumacher on 72 minutes gave the second half the spark it had been missing as both side struggled for possession. It took a touch from Worrall in front of goal which sent the ball into the hands of Bialkowski.

A blasted effort from Judge outside the box on 78 minutes took a deflection from Bury and forced Trevor Carson to tip the ball over the bar. The resulting corner fell to Alan Sheehan whose powerful effort pinged around the box before being cleared by Bury.

The visitors made the most of a mistake from Mark Hughes to take the ball forward through Judge – he took the ball into the left of the box and, with Lee Hughes waiting to his right, buried the ball past Carson.
