Mark Carrington reflects on past performances’ and the lack of points
“All the lads are excited and raring to go for the weekend. Performances have been really good but we haven’t got the results to show for it. We need points on the board and we are all raring to go hoping that we can play as well as we have been playing this Saturday, and get the three points.
Last weekend we battered Notts County, but didn’t score. We’ve watched the DVD back again and it’s even more evident on the video just how well we did play. We did really well and if we had taken one of those chances, we would have gone on and won the game, it’s just a matter of taking out first chance.
We have to keep plugging away, everything upto putting the ball in the back of the net was fine. It’s not always going to be like that, at some stage somebody will put one away and when we do we will go onto hit a few.
We’ve had tough games and there’s more to come. Most teams in this league now will be a tough game, they are all bit teams. I don’t think any of them will be an easy game. We’ve had games at big stadium’s which is always nice, we’ve equipped ourselves well and played well against them, it can give us good confidence for the rest of the season.
We don’t pay any attention to what other teams and clubs are saying. They can say what they want and try to stir something up, but once that whistle goes it’s all about what we do on the pitch and about us getting three points.
We’ve got players coming back from suspension and injury. You always want to have a fully fit squad with no suspension’s, its gives us the chance to pick the best players and the best team. There’s only really David Healy who is struggling for Saturday, but if we can get him back in the next week or so, then we will be fine.
I’m really enjoying my time here, it’s a great set of lads and I enjoy working with Peter Shirtliff, he’s doing a good job so hopefully we can kick on and do well this season, and then hopefully stay here a bit longer.
I think Shirty has done a really good job, and if you look at how he has got us playing. Brentford was a good point, we should have had a point at Doncaster but were robbed of anything there, the second half at Coventry after he changed it was a great performance and we should have won the game. We should have won the game last weekend as well, so for me he’s doing a good job and I’d like him to get it full time.
Points haven’t followed the performances and there is a massive sense of frustration in the dressing room. The table doesn't say you played well but you’ve only got two points. We’ve probably played better than a lot of the teams that are above us, but we have to make sure we use that frustration the right way and take it out on the pitch to get three points.
If we had the points and had scrapped for them, then there would be a low mood in the camp, but everyone is buzzing. If we carry on playing this way then it will change. We are not going to carry on playing this well and not pick up any points.”
