Tom Soares on the new season and expectations‘Being named vice captain is an honour for me. Obviously we all have a roll to play on the pitch, but it’s a good roll for me and it’s just good to be a part of all this.
The gaffer came into the dressing room the other day and told me about it, with Gareth Roberts as skipper and me as vice, it’s definitely an honour for me.
Everyone plays a big part in what happens here and for me it’s a positive that the manager has seen something in me, hopefully I can use that leadership and do it on the pitch.
I think we are all fed up with these behind closed doors games, a lot of the boys can’t wait to get going now. We just want to get going. We’ve all trained really hard and just want to start the season now.
The gaffer has pulled a good squad together, I think he might be sorted with everyone now but there may be some more – there may be a couple of new arrivals but what we have now makes us look really strong. We’ve worked really hard and everyone looks really fit.
Every game will be tough, but we just have to go out there and give it our all. We’ve got a good squad here and we’ve got a chance to do something this season. Obviously we are not going to know how we will do throughout the season until we actually get going. The boys are raring for it.
We haven’t really kept an eye on what other teams are doing, but maybe as the season starts it may be a little bit different. We just have to concentrate on ourselves and what we can do, on what we are going to do as a team and as a club.’
