Shaun Harrad reflects on the start to the season and Saturday’s game
Shaun Harrad spoke to Shakers Player on Thursday and looked back on the start of the season, his search for goals and obviously he’s looking forward to returning to Burton Albion on Saturday.
‘We are all ready to go for the weekend now, but we know it’s going to be a tough game and we are well prepared. We’ve gone about our business in a professional manner and haven’t let the results get to us. We have been disappointed with the Chesterfield & Oxford results but we’ve kept on doing what we are good at and it paid off on Saturday. We had some luck with the sending off but we saw the game out really nicely.
The Chesterfield & Oxford games haven’t reflected our performances. We should be on more points but we didn’t take the chances we had against Chesterfield and they should have been put to bed, but you live and learn from games like that.
Two more lads have arrived this week into the squad and we welcome everyone with open arms into that dressing room. We all get on really well and that’s crucial for everything. The gaffer gets us all together every day and morale is really high. It’s not been an issue but it’s more about getting to know what we do on the pitch and what each player is capable of doing what.
It’s been an eye opener for one or two and we’ve had some tough sessions, but it’s all a benefit to the players on a Saturday.
We have four or five strikers and plenty of competition for places across the pitch. I dropped out at the weekend and Anton Forrester did really well. Ashley Grimes is a great player at this level and then we had Marlon Jackson coming off the bench to score his goal, we are all on our toes but we are pulling in the right direction which is the most important thing.
The gaffer wants goals from the lads in the middle and the lads at the back – I think that’s important because we have to take the goals from all round the side. That bodes well not just for the strikers but in general; everyone should be chipping in with goals long term.
When you step onto that pitch, as a professional you have to take your chance and perform. You have to keep that shirt and the gaffer has told us the same. I’m happy with that and having scored my first goal, you have to look forward to getting more. As a striker you set targets and I am quite happy with how it has started off.
We have good options out wide that can get balls into the box. Burton Albion should know that they are in for a game on Saturday. They are a tough side to play against, but they will be saying the same about us. We don’t have anything to fear in this league. They have had a good start with a few good results, but we are no different, we are going there for three points.
It will be nice to go back to Burton because that’s where it all started for me, but for me – I want three points on Saturday.’
