A goal in each half puts Bury to the sword
Bury 0 Sheffield United 2
The Shakers were overpowered by a confident Sheffield United side, who scored a goal in each half to take all three points back over the Pennines.
Jonathan Forte finished off a slick move late in the first half, blasting the ball past Trevor Carson from just inside the box, before Jamie Murphy doubled the score line after an hour with an impressive one-man effort.
As much as the Shakers tried to find a space to take the ball forward, a resilient Blades defence continued to soak up any pressure. Bury’s best chance fell to Ashley Eastham on 52 minutes as he somehow managed to poke the ball over the bar from close range at the far post.
The visitors looked closest to breaking the deadlock on 9 minutes, after a neat cross was whipped in from the right and Jonathan Forte got his foot behind it, but luckily for Bury, he shot straight at Trevor Carson.
Steven Schumacher looked inches from taking the lead for Bury on 18 minutes, but his ambitious effort took a deflection and sailed just wide of the post.
Ryan Flynn tried his luck from the left of the box on 31 minutes, following a confident build up from the visitors, but Carson had it covered in the middle of the net.
GOAL! The deadlock was broken on 39 minutes after plenty of quick feet from Forte upset the Bury back line once again and he curled the ball past Carson from just inside the box.
