The Shakers’ winless run was extended to ten games after being out-muscled in the second half by top-of-the-table Tranmere.
An even opening half saw both sides go close to opening the scoring – Andy Robinson almost converted from just outside the box early in the half, before Tom Hopper went wide of the mark ten minutes later.
Tranmere were awarded a penalty just before the break, but Trevor Carson pulled a one-handed block out of the bag to keep the half time score at 0-0.
Robinson eventually made one of his efforts count on 56 minutes, consigning Bury to their first defeat of 2013.
The visitors looked close to opening the scoring on 5 minutes – Liam Palmer made space for himself on the left before crossing to Andy Robinson on the edge of the box, but his curled effort was deflected past the post for a corner.
A nice move forward from the Shakers on 14 minutes was built up by Andrai Jones and David Worrall working together on the left. The loose ball ended up with Gregg Wylde on the opposite side and his low cross was met by Tom Hopper at the near post, but he put it wide.
Tom Soares tried his luck from distance on the half hour mark, only to watch the ball sail well over the bar without troubling Owain Fon Williams.
Michael O’Halloran teed up a low shot from the left of the box on 36 minutes, but Trevor Carson in the Bury net had it covered at his near post.
Wylde took the ball forward on his own after beating both his markers on 39 minutes – he tried a shot from just outside the box but saw the ball sweep just over the bar.
The visitors were awarded a penalty just before the break – Robinson strode up to the ball, only to see Carson pull a save out of the bag and keep the scoreline at 0-0.

Robinson continued to pose a threat for the visitors, striking the woodwork on 54 minutes from the left of the box.
GOAL! Moments later, Robinson made a strike from the same position count – a neat pass from Palmer set up the captain on the left of the box and he buried the ball past Carson.

The visitors looked destined to extend their lead on 62 minutes, but Adam McGurk forced a one-handed save from Carson as he paced through on goal.
