Ronnie Jenkins

Former shaker passes away aged 88

It is with deep regret that we announce the death of a former Player.

Ronnie Jenkins was a popular local sportsman born in Bury.  He signed professional terms with the Shakers in December 1946, for a grand figure of £7 per week.  Norman Bullock was the Shakers manager that signed Ronnie as he quickly earned the name ‘Rocket’.

He was known as a flying winger playing with the likes of the late Eric Massey, Cyril Fairclough and Les Hart.  Sadly Ronnie never actually appeared for the Shakers first team but played many reserve games for the club over a two year period.

After leaving Bury, he went onto play for Hyde United, Stalybridge Celtic, Altrincham and Radcliffe Borough to name a few.  He was also a well-known cricketer in the borough playing for East Lancs Paper Mill.

Ronnie married the late Eva and settled down in his home ton and will be sadly missed by all who knew him, especially his family and friends.

Our deepest condolences are extended to all friends and family of Ronnie.
