Sheffield United Match Update

21 January 2013

Pitch Inspection called for 9:30am on Tuesday

Tuesday night’s game can only be classed as doubtful.  With heavy snow in the area overnight, the pitch is currently covered with three inches of snow on top of the covers.

Saturday’s game was postponed due to several areas of the pitch frozen solid, namely the corners, the side of the pitch under the South Stand and both penalty areas.  That remains unchanged.  Temperatures overnight will not help matters with already some forecasting websites showing a drop to -5.

With all this in mind, the club will be seeking a pitch inspection at the earliest opportunity.  With a large crowd expected and a heavy snow fall in the surrounding area, conditions will be difficult.  Also with heavy snow overnight in and around the Pennines, we also have to think of the Sheffield United fans travelling to the game.

With all the above considered, a pitch inspection will take place at Gigg Lane on Tuesday morning at 9:30am.  We will of course communicate the result of that inspection as soon as it is known via usual sources
