Be patient

12 July 2013

Assistant manager Ronnie Jepson on pre-season and looking forward

“Everything is good at the moment, the new regime has come in and they are fantastic people.  As we can all see they are ripping the club apart and improving everything with the new gym and all the work going on around the place?  It’s all good and it’s been needed for a while.

The manager and chairman are working very closely together and they are working on their targets.  We’ve seen that agents are trying to sell their players a little bit higher and sometimes you have to be a little more patient and hold your nerve.

Training has been fantastic so far, especially with the way that the gaffer has set pre-season up.  Any one session is never the same which is good for the players, and the players have applied themselves brilliantly.  The lads that we have brought in and the trialists have been second to none.

They have all been good and they have all worked hard.  We are up to scratch in terms of all their timings.  It’s frustrating for the gaffer at times because he wants to get his team together, we are two to three weeks away from kick off and now is the time to get the fitness work out of the way and start working on shape and the balance of the team.

The gaffer wants to get his philosophy over to the players on how he wants to go.  He will be a happier man once he’s got the rest of his players in.

This is going to be a case of working on it right upto the Chesterfield game.  Agents will wait until the last possible minute to get their players a club, it’s like eBay, they wait until the last bid and we just have to be patient.  There will also be loan players, and we’ve been watching a few games already.  We have one or two irons in the fire and hopefully they come into fruition soon.

We’ve brought two lads in this week in Chris Sedgwick and John Rooney.  Sedgwick is a good professional player, he will be a squad player and he will be looking to be in the starting eleven.  He has come in and has set the tone; he’s conducted himself in the right manner and done everything that we have asked of him.  We like the look of him and we think he can do us a job here.  John Rooney had a spell at Macclesfield before going to the MLS in America.  We are building a squad here.  Chris and John will both add to the squad.

We are always looking for players.  It’s about building a team; we just cannot do it all of a sudden.  The gaffer is showing a lot of patience with the calibre of player that is available.

Ashley Grimes will score goals for us, I don’t want to tempt fate, but he has shaped up really well for us, but he will score goals at this level.  Andy Procter is a season pro at this level.  If you look at his record, he doesn’t miss many games and he will provide good protection for the back four and the other lads in midfield.  He will sit and protect, he’s like Chris Lucketti, wears his heart on his sleeve and we will get nothing but 110% from him every time he turns out.

Nathan Cameron has great potential, he’s a good athlete and we are still looking to strengthen at the back.  It’s getting the right balance; we are getting there slowly but surely.’
