Behind doors friendly at National Training Centre
Bury’s pre-season routine takes a step up tomorrow when Kevin Blackwell takes his squad and trialists to St George Park and the National Football Training Centre near Burton.
The players will be put through their paces throughout the day as well as taking part in a behind closed door friendly with Romanian side FC Oțelul Galați, who are also training at St George’s Park
Speaking to Shakers Player this morning, manager Kevin Blackwell said of the visit:-
“We were looking for a game early on in our pre-season, initially we spoke to Blackburn about playing their Under 21 side, but a game came to us to play FC Oțelul Galați, who are a Romanian Premier League side at St Georges Park.
The facilities at St Georges Park are absolutely phenomenal. It’s something that we rally cannot turn down. We’ve worked hard at Goshen and on Lower Gigg and it would be nice to just have a day away to do something different.
It’s a chance for me to look at the trialists that have done well, and to use the game for the likes of Shane Byrne and Adam Lockwood, who haven’t played for a long time. I won’t be using too many of what I consider to be my starting line-up.
It’s a great opportunity to look at some of the players that might have a future at the club. It will be a competitive game plus it’s also being beamed back to Romania as a live game. There’s the difference in the style of football so the lads are going to have to learn about it, it will be an interesting exercise for us all.”
